Title: Windows 8 Start Screen - MC Tile
Post by: ldoodle on September 16, 2014, 06:35:56 am
Can we get something a bit more flashy please?

The tile icon is so 1990's! Make it flip through the various 'feature' icons: TV, film, pictures, videos, music etc. And make it able to be a 'wide' tile (occupying 2 slots'). If in the wide state, combine the feature icons along the horizontal plane, or use more detailed icons.

Or it you want to be really flashy, include upcoming TV shows that you've set to be recorded, for those that use the TV function.

Thanks!

Isn't all this only possible for ModernUI Apps (formerly "Metro Apps")? MC is a desktop app so I don't think it is possible to do all those fancy things.

I'd rather see improvements to taskbar integration (http://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php?topic=78281.msg535923#msg535923), and toast notification support (http://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php?topic=91596.0) first.

+10 for that !!

Really annoying that sometimes there ARE controls in taskbar and sometimes ARE NOT.

The first thing I do when setting up a Windows 8 / 8.1 computer is install "Classic Shell Menu" system:

So I don't ever have to see that silly tile system.  lol

I'm with you. Give me inside the box function, not external bells and whistles.

Normally I'd agree. But for a HTPC the Start Screen is a million times better in my view. Without it, how do you load MC without a keyboard/mouse, from presumably a shortcut icon on the desktop.

I don't want it to load automatically on PC start.

I power on, use the remote to select the MC tile, click OK. Job done. The only time I use keyboard/mouse is for config. changes or adding to/deleting from the library.

You're probably right on the ModernUI apps, but can we at least get a (much) better default static image?

Agreed.  Now that we're at MC 20, it's time to add a Windows Metro version.

No way, you load MC with a wonderful thing called Key-Mapping software!
I have a button on my Logitech Remote called JRiver, another called Windows Media Center another that says Cyberlink PowerDVD and each one launches that program.

Same here.  I even take it one step further with intelliremote.  Whichever program / profile I load automatically remaps the remaining buttons to be functional for that program.  For MC Buttons 1 - 5 are for rating, Play, Pause, stop etc. etc...

I mostly use JRiver for audio at this point.  But same would go for video or even photos.
