I know there are a lot of Samsung 840 Evo users here (including myself), so I thought this might be of general interest:

Bottom line keep your eyes peeled for a firmware update sometime soon.

Thanks for posting that.

Samsung has now released a firmware fix, this article has some good data on what was fixed, and the bottom of the article has a link to the update tool: http://techreport.com/review/27212/samsung-840-evo-update-fixes-slow-reads-with-old-data

Thanks for the tip.
My Evo isn't old enough to show the issue however with this info, I can cut it off at the pass.

I got slow downs within three or four weeks, so yours must be very new indeed ;D (congrats on the new drive!)

I didn't actually go and measure the speeds after nearly half a year of 24/7 operation, but the tool was applied, and everything is probably good now =)

I didn't measure using speedtach or anything, but I'd notice that when I'd do read-intensive activities that Hardware Sentinel was reporting read speeds in the low 100's of MB/s, which was baffling to me before the news came out. Sometimes reads would move at 400 MB/s, sometimes at 100, but usually in a sort of spike pattern between the two, and there seemed to be no pattern to it. That's why I was excited when someone cracked the code on this and samsung agreed to fix it.
If I wanted 100MB/s access times, I wouldn't have gotten an SSD to begin with ;D

Hi does this problem effect the Pro version or just the evo?.
A friend of mine in making an archive of a 4 tb drive has the evo and uses the same external dock via USB 3 I was copying at 3 times the speed from the same make and size drive - this would explain everything for him.
Thanks

The 840 Pro is not affected, but the vanilla 840 may be.
