The library database function here is a good one. I like it a lot. But I want no part of allowing JRiver to perform writes to media disks (sidecars).
So I'm wondering, since your library does such a good job identifying the movie - why not just store the tag within the database via a unique SHA1 hash of the video file? So when I search for a video - the artwork pops up too?

If you don't trust MC write to your disks, you probably should uninstall it now.
