Hello,
Since my DAC does only handle DSD64, I must downconvert DSD128 and DSD256 files.
It is working for DSD128 (either to DSD64 via the DSD encoding feature (with bitstreaming OFF) or to PCM 24/176.4 via the DSP output settings), but not for DSD256 (see details here : http://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php?topic=92493.0 (http://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php?topic=92493.0), posted in the Version 19 forum).
I tried on both Windows version 19 and 20, without success, and a friend of mine made the same tests on the Windows and Linux versions : same problem.
My DSD256 tests files came from the following sites:
https://justlisten.nativedsd.com/albums/just-listen-1-compilation (https://justlisten.nativedsd.com/albums/just-listen-1-compilation) (free download of sample tracks, after registering)
http://wechdomi.org/english/index.html (http://wechdomi.org/english/index.html) (free download)
So, is DSD256 downconversion supposed to work ? ?

Hi.
I've done a test with the same track, using output encoding 2xdsd asio native, and it works fine (but my dac is a 256/512 capable, but with no display of differents dsd mode, so, not sure, but...).
Try to use "bitstreaming: Yes (DSD)".

I can't use this output encoding to 2xdsd, because my DAC is limited to DSD64 : I can only use 1x DSD output encoding.
And when using output encoding, I think bitstreaming must be set to OFF ?
When I set bitstreaming to Yes (DSD), DSD files are treated "as is" and it does not work for DSD256 or even DSD128 files with my DAC (which is limited to DSD64).
Anyway, from your test, it seems that the downconversion from DSD256 to DSD128 is working fine... Perhaps it is the downconversion of DSD256 to DSD64 which doesn't work ?
Have you tried the downconversion of DSD256 to PCM ?
Just curious : what is your DAC model, which can handle up to DSD512 ? :o

Tested at 1xdsd and still functioning...
I "must" use bitstreaming: Yes (DSD), otherwise there is an error in playing dsd256 (but dsd64 and dsd128 are fine). But, with or without it, if I set output encoding to ".xDSD native asio" my dac (Yulong da8) displays "input usb DSD".

Ok, thank you very much for your tests. I'll make other tests this evening, with the bitstreaming setting, and report back.

I downloaded one of the DSD256 samples, and can't play it here either.
It looks like you may be able to bitstream DSD256 if your DAC supports it (mine does not) but Media Center can't play it back as PCM, or PCM encoded to DSD64.

What? It should be able to play any DSD source as PCM. Could you mail me a sample (matt at jriver dot com)?

It was this track from the link that rotho provided http://wechdomi.org/M333/o5.dff (http://wechdomi.org/M333/o5.dff)
I don't have any other DSD256 material. I'll try downloading another of their samples.

Next build:
Fixed: DSD with the sample rate 11,289,600 Hz would not open.

It's funny. We had a sample rate checker to make sure the sample rate was valid. That's such a high sample rate it was tripping over the corruption finder. Obviously we just need to ratchet up the allowed sample rates.

Matt,
Thank you very much !
Does this fix concern only the DSD256 -> PCM path (with DSP Settings), or also the DSD256 -> DSD64 path (with Output encoding at 1x DSD rate) ?

It should fix both, since you can't go from one DSD rate to another without a PCM stage in-between. (which is why I prefer DSD→PCM, rather than DSD→PCM→DSD)

It means that I do not need to have bitstream:yes (dsd) ?
