Title: Make JRiver more self explaining
Post by: Vincent Kars on October 24, 2014, 12:18:06 pm
Beside a configuration Wizard I would suggest to make JRiver more self explaining
There is a plethora of options in almost each dialog and even after using JRiver form 14 on, it is often unclear to me what these options do.

In the past an attempt has been made like the Customize View dialog.
On the right is explained what it does.
A possibility is for each option selected, use this right panel to explain what it does.

If possible show what happens on the spot.
This happens e.g. when one chose "Showing alphabet" it is displayed and if one uncheck it is removed. This makes JRiver truly self explaining.
The same happen when one checks Always Show Files (I suggest Show File Panel). But if one unchecks, it stays in plays.

Unfortunately it is not possible to do this for all options, hence document them in the help panel

Context sensitive help for each selection and option. There are options I can set when setting a DLNA server to a zone. (Setnext something or other - it's not inf front of me now). I should be able to easily find out what each of those means, in order to best determine if it will address my requirements.
This could come from a Help File. I'd still prefer this to a combo of wiki/FAQ.

Perhaps hovering can present a pop-up (as another option).
