Title: Have only Media Server load at startup
Post by: Afrosheen on October 26, 2014, 08:46:35 pm
Hi all!  Is there a way to have just the Media Server load at startup?  Thanks for the consideration!  -A

Tools/Options/Startup/Windows Startup/[option 3]

Is it actually still called that on OSX?

I mentioned it once long before as a bug report that this should be re-named properly.  Let me check...

Okay, no... They did fix it.

Tools > Options > Mac Startup  > Run on Mac Startup:

* Nothing: auto-launches nothing.
* Media Center: launches the regular MC UI, but does not load the special Media Server mode.
* Media Server: launches the small Media Server-only mode of MC, which runs up by the clock.  When the main MC UI is closed, this keeps running in the background.
* Media Center and Media Server: launches both the Media Server-only mode, and the full MC UI at boot.  Like in Media Server only mode, when the main MC UI is closed, it keeps the media server running in the background.

I just did a clean install of OS 10.10 (Yosemite) and JRiver 20.0.29 and selected Media Server at Run on Mac Startup. When I login remotely on my Mac mini I still have the GUI displayed at full screen. I thought this was an option to just start the server displayed by a small icon by the clock and use JRemote on my iPad to select music. Am I right? Are there more settings to consider?

Anybody? Back to the original question: is it possible to only start the Media server at startup of the Mac mini? I always find the MC GUI displayed at full screen, so that means the Media center is also running?

It absolutely works on my installs. Have you checked in the Users system preferences panel to make sure you don't have it set to launch there as well?

You can also set apps to auto-relaunch when logging in on OSX, and I think that is the default behavior.

When I only select Media server at Run on Mac Startup (and do not select Auto-launch MC in System preferences) nothing is happening. I expect to only see a small icon in the upper right corner.

@glynor: any suggestions? Did I overlook other settings?

I can reproduce the problem.  We'll see what we can do for the next build.
Thanks.

We are a few builds later at the moment, but I think this issue isn't fixed yet. Is it?

Sorry, this fell through the cracks a bit.  We'll move this up the list.
