Title: Stopping video playback goes to black screen and hangs ...
Post by: AlexP on October 28, 2014, 07:23:19 pm
I am wondering if anyone noticed this intermittent behavior in MC 20.

Sometimes when I click STOP (not pause) during video playback, the screen goes dark and hangs.
Usually in a second the black screen switches to normal MC20 UI, but once in a while it stays dark. Clicking on mouse, keyboard does not make a difference. In about 5 min my projectors turns off on no signal.

I do not remember such effect in MC19.

But I like MC20 :-)

I have not encountered this.

It sounds like it could be related to:

It is a pretty log post, but I am not sure i found it relevant.

In my case the video goes fine. I want to stop it and click on stop by my mouse. The video stops, the screen goes dark, and does not switch to the MC GUI.

He occasionally has issues advancing to the next file.  Advancing to the next file implicitly requires a Stop.

Then it hangs.  So, similar.

Interesting ...

Someone on the thread said " ... but hopefully the green button will save me from ctl-alt-del next time."

My PC did not react even on <ctl-alt-del> when it was on the black screen .. :-(

I had to do hard reset ...

In that case, your problem is unrelated to MC and it is hardware.  Probably your video card driver, but it could be your audio device too, or any one of a number of problems with the motherboard, RAM, or CPU.

Only a hardware issue (driver, OS, or physical) can cause your computer to ignore the Control-Alt-Delete interrupt.  That's why Microsoft uses it to secure the Windows login prompt.

If your computer ever:

* freezes so that control-alt-delete does nothing (and, essentially always if mouse input freezes or stops working)
* blue screen crashes
* reboots spontaneously

Assuming the CPU isn't just so busy that it is performing terribly (so your mouse eventually moves or reacts, but extremely slowly, and you can see that the CPU is at 100%)... Then:  It is hardware, drivers, or OS.  No user-space application (non-drivers) are allowed by Windows to create that state in Windows NT based kernels.

An application can tell your hardware to do things it should be able to do, which make them crash because they're failing or the driver is buggy, but that isn't because the application has a bug.  It is because your computer when told to do something specific, does something else instead.

i have the same (intermittent) problem since moving to MC20, including latest version. I could use ctrl-alt-delete though.

Plus, sometimes playback starts black (and stays that way). Or, bunch of still images which sort themselves out eventually.

Latest Intel HD3000 win 8.1 drivers (there is only one driver from March time i think), all others are up to date.

RO HQ, video clock, WASAPI event HDMI audio, no DSP.

All worked perfectly with MC19 with the same hardware/drivers/settings.

I've not had a chance to run logs yet or tried rolling back madvr/lav.

Then, it is not the same.

Yours does seem to be, possibly, related to the other thread I linked above.
