I'm about at my wits end. I've tried for over 20 hours (easily!) to get MC20 to send audio to my SBT from my Surface Pro 2 in its base station through Ethernet. MC19 worked fine. MC20 plays okay through external computer speakers from an external hard drive connected to the Surface.
Also, I can access music on the SBT from the hard drive using the LMS interface. I've installed Whitebear as well.
Hopefully, I can get some help before I give up on JRiver, which was so cool working with JRemote or Gizmo with MC19 playing to my main room stereo. I've read dozens of posts, but nothing seems to address my problem, and many of the posts are at a tech level beyond my comprehension.

Try searching for instructions on Whitebear both here and on the Internet.

Thanks for the quick response, Jim. I've done that. Nothing seems to help.
Is the SBT or Whitebear supposed to automatically show up in Playing Now->Player? It doesn't. Whitebear does show under Playing Now->Playing from Main Library. Also, LMS used to, but it doesn't now.

It could be a firewall issue. MC19 and MC20 are two different applications. If the renderers are showing in 19 and not in 20 then it could be that you had set your firewall to allow 19 but it is blocking 20..
-
I checked that. MC20 is allowed. Also, I deleted MC19 from firewall permission list. Judging from MC setup instructions, devices are supposed to show up shortly after MC starts up. This is obviously not happening as a player, but Whitebear does show up in libraries. SBT used to, but not anymore. So frustrating!

Does the Touch show up in Whitebear's monitor in the Windows task tray (the bear on the bottom right of your screen)?
-
Both Whitebear and LMS show up as running on the About tab in Whitebear.
-
On one of the tabs (I am travelling and I can't remember the exact tab name) the Whitebear tray monitor should show the quantity of Squeeze boxes that are connected to it. Does that number correspond to your actual number of players?
-
Actually, no. It shows 0.
-
So no surprises that zero players are shown in MC then..
My next question is whether the player shows up in LMS itself?
-
Well, this is pretty embarrassing . . . problem solved.
I don't typically open the LMS on the computer. I use the SB app on my iPad to control the SBT. The switch between mysqueezebox and LMS occurs sometimes without me realizing it because the SBT continues to work, even if it is not selected in the LMS. Because I was able to use the SBT, it never occurred to me to check the LMS.
Prompted by your suggestion, I did open the LMS and discovered my Touch was not selected. I selected it, and, after several opening and closing of programs (LMS, JRiver, JRemote) and restarting the SBT, etc., it came together. "Squeezebox Touch (by Whitebear)" now shows up in "Playing Now" in MC20 and on JRemote and I am again able to play music off my hard drive.
I am humbled. Thank you to the nth.
Best,

Well done, both, to solve the problem.
Neil, thanks for being patient in solving the problem.
Thanks as always to Andrew.
