Hello:
I updated to '33, and MC proceeded to retag my two terabyte music collection. I went to great pains with a 3rd party program to tag my music; now I have to do it over again. Is there a way I can prevent this from ever happening again?

MC won't randomly retag. You can turn off tagging in Options > General > Update tags when file info changes

Can you describe what happened?
What was changed?

Well, it didn't retag every single item, but I have 42 genres now where I only had about ten previously. I like to keep things simple. I've checked every conceivable option I can think of in regards to tagging, and they are all ticked off.

Are you running any 3rd party plugins in the program that might tag?
Also, what are some sample names it used for Genre?

No 3rd party plugins. I use TagRename manually.
Here are the new genres. Note that I usually go with Ambient, Bluegrass, Classical, Electronic, Ethnic, Folk, Jazz, New Age, Rock.

Well, "Surf Rock" isn't anywhere to be found in our code. I think something else has to be engaging.

Maybe MC did an Update Library (from tags) and that's the genre value in the tags? This happens automatically at times with auto-import.

Similar to the "duplicate files" problem, I bet these tags have been imported from cue files.

Yep, similar happened to me. Really messed up my lib. Still haven't found all the damage...
