Title: FEATURE REQUEST: Show IPTV channels (http://...) in the TV Guide
Post by: Mars on November 07, 2014, 05:10:24 pm
We can watch IPTV from our Internet Service Provider with a DLNA Server plugin that, when installed in the HTPC, it routes each TV channel stream to a different URL (http://...), which can be played in MC. I'd like to add these URL in the TV Guide, so they were considered as TV channels along the ones coming from the other tuners, having their own EPG data and all the PVR capabilities. Is there a way to achieve this?

Sorry, I don't think it is currently possible.

Thank You, Yaobing. Then let me turn the topic to a feature request  ;).

I'd like the ability to add a virtual tuner where we could choose different sources to set channels, like URLs, and assign them EPG data.

("+" will be much appreciated  ;D)

Greetings from Catalonia.

Just an example of how or why this could be a great feature. I don't have cable, so don't have all the kids channels, but I do have some of the DVDs and other files. I could create a playlist and set up a stream from my server using vlc. Then I set it up as a channel in the TV guide, give it a number and voila, my kids have there own DIY kids channel :-)

Why wouldn't you just rip the DVDs to disk (you can get 6TB in one hard disk these days), then set up a User ID for the kids in MC, and restrict what they can see or do? I haven't used the User functionality in MC yet, but that is what it is supposed to do. The kids will work out how to drive Theatreview in no time, and recognised the cover art etc. of their favourite programs. You could set up a view in Theatreview that only showed their programs, and only let them get to just that view.

Or are you trying to stream a selection of programs at a particular time and not let them see anything else? But then, why would you need it in the Guide?

I do have my DVDs ripped to a server, but that was just an example. Another is being able to watch, say, CBSN or Bloomberg natively.
