Title: drag and drop into playing now doesn't play the file

when playing now is empty, when I drag and drop a file to playng now, it doesn't
start playing - it just sits there. But when I right click on the file and select add
to playing now it starts immediately playing. How can I get the file to start playing
immediately when i drag and drop it ?

When you drop, you should get a menu: Play, Add to Playing Now.  If you pick Play, it should start playing right away.

I don't get a menu. It just puts the song in playing now. I have to click
the play button to get the song to play. However, if I right click on the song
and select "add to playing now", it plays right away

Drop it on the tree item Playing Now, instead of the list on the right.
