Title: Help with Cue File Unpleasantness?
Post by: ssands on November 08, 2014, 11:47:01 pm
As reported elsewhere, build 33 messed up libraries due to cue files. I don't really know what happened, I do know that the work I put in grooming my library has been messed up.

Is there a way to easily and in an automated way, clean up the dup files (the ones with a ;1, ;2, etc.)?

Thanks.

Seen it. Seems like it is still an open issue. Just wondering if there is some automated way to fix it.

Really hoping and really frustrated.

If you don't care about cue files at all, remove them from your auto-import rules and use the smartlist from my post there to remove the cue entries.
If you do care about cue files, but want to remove all the duplicates that appeared from this recent change, there's not really anything that can be done until Media Center stops re-importing them every time auto-import runs.

There is something that can be done, you can just remove the old entries, they won't be re-imported.

They're being re-imported every time auto-import runs here.

It is the new entries which have messed up my library; they are the ones which need removing. I do not want to remove the old entries as they are correctly tagged, and represent hours of work on my part.

Well, I guess this is my plan:

Am I missing anything?

Can you not just restore a backup?  MC makes them automatically.

I could certainly try. I'm struggling with not having the cue files mess things up again. And not really sure
1) why it happened?
2) and what to do to keep it from happening again

It sounds like if I rip from SACDs I'll need the cue files. Is that correct?

In the case of single file disc rips, I've used Medieval Cue splitter to extract the individual tracks. And then deleted the big single file rip.

I don't have the experience that many of this forum do, so when things change suddenly it's hard to know what is the "right thing to do".

Also, I don't recall what I ripped since the last backup (I suppose I could check with a query). I've started to rip my collection so I'm putting in discs fairly constantly.

If you can wait a few days, this problem should be solved.

In the meantime, back up your current library and then restore an older one.  Turn off auto import before you do that.

Will do and will report back.

Does MC make a lib backup just prior to each new install? If not, I'd like to offer that as a easy to implement enhancement.
