Title: Auto-replicating playlists problem
Post by: This2ShallPass on November 28, 2014, 09:47:48 am
Hi All:

The first playlist I ever created (all audio, BTW) somehow replicates itself, like a cyborg gone out of control. Has no bearing on whether the playlist is playing, has been played, etc.

I have 7 playlists, and only ONE of them seems to propagate like bunnies! I'll wake up and there will be the original ("Animals") and then hundreds of others ("Animals (1)", "Animals (2)", "Animals (x+1)", sequencing on up).

I've tried locking it and unlocking. I delete all the extras, and they come back!

What on earth could be happening???   :o

I have no idea about this.  Do you have a cat on your keyboard hitting Ctrl+C/Ctrl+V?

Do you have a media server/client setup going, or just standalone MC20?

Ha! no cats, sadly. I have a dog, and would also like a cat, but spouse says no (emphatically).

I do have 2 kids, but if it isn't made by Apple, they haven't a clue how it works.

Yes, server + 2 clients (all Windows 7). And no matter where this is going, I have 5 other playlists, none of which exhibit this behavior. This one is unique ONLY in that it's the first I ever created.

This has now happened at least a half dozen times (I keep cleaning up), and it still takes place. I'm inclined to delete it wholesale, and start that list over again.

Thanks in advance!

Here's a screenshot. I deleted them all this afternoon, it's my bedtime, and look!

Try starting a new library, but it's hard to imagine how this could be a JRiver bug.

Maybe a remote or keyboard stuck in between the couch cushions?

It's a bug, or wierd behaviour of sorts, caused by the client/server connections. I gave up on it as I'm not a prolific playlist user. Glynor has made some very detailed posts on this problem which has been present for some time now, at least two major versions, I think.

This2ShallPass,
Try disconnecting both clients from the server.
Correct the playlists as you want them, on the server machine only, reconnect the clients, and all should settle down. As I'm not completely certain of all of the peculiarities, I've trained myself to never edit playlists while clients are connected.

Let us know if that cures the recurring playlist creation. I've seen one post with this exact problem, but it was a long time ago, and I can't remember enough about it to search for it efficiently.

+1 - I plan to steal your quote and add one Wife!

There has been a very similar report before but I can't find it.

I'll search some more, its out there.

;D I had a problem like that in version 18 with the car radio buttons => http://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php?topic=81097.msg552671#msg552671 (http://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php?topic=81097.msg552671#msg552671) 30 million tracks were in my playlists Matt calculated and I was wondering why my 8GBs of memory was a bit stressed  ;D

I'm afraid that's not the thread I meant and it bugs me that I can't find it.

I'm pretty sure there was a guy who had posted screenshots of playlists replicating themselves into  the thousands. And I'm pretty sure Matt helped him solve that too.

Mouse, I remember that thread too, but I can't find it either.  It was almost identical to this.

Thanks all for the replies, and kudos to Marko: I disconnected both clients, set the server straight, and that seemed to work!

You're welcome. Pleased to hear it's settled down now.

I was not able to find the other post with this problem, even via Google. I did find glynor's post though, started in 2012....

I wonder how much magic would be needed to fix this part of the sync madness. Its driving me crazy sometimes.

Anyone got any spare pixie dust I could borrow?
