Title: What current tuners are recommended? Current "supported" list years old
Post by: kmikottis on November 30, 2014, 11:50:03 am
I see there is a list of "supported" tuners here:  "TV Devices Supported" http://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php?topic=33741.0.  This list is 8 years old. And, there seems to be only one addition in the last 4 years. Is the tuner market really that stale?
I am in the market to buy my 1st tuner for my HTPC running JRiver. More importantly than a list of ones that "work", which ones perform best with JRiver. Without doing a keyword search for each potential device to see which ones have the fewest reported issues, is there a current comprehensive list somewhere? If not, looking for recommendations from those that have had consistent success.

There is no other list.

The answer to your questions depend on where you are located (in US, or in Europe, or other places) and what type of TV channels (in the US, ATSC, digital cable, satellite, etc., and in Europe/Australia DVB-T, DVB-C, DVB-S etc.) you try to view.

Thanks Yaobing. I'll know not to keep searching.

Specifically, I am in the US and as of now only consuming Over The Air digital signal via a roof mounted digital antenna.

For over-the-air TV in the USA, you need a device with bda driver.  There are many choices.  Many people like SiliconDust's HDHomeRun Dual (http://www.silicondust.com/products/hdhomerun/hdhomerun-dual/).  This device is connected to your router via an ethernet port.  Once setup you can access it from any computer on your network.  This feature, while not necessary when you use JRiver Media Center, is convenient.  The device comes with two tuners.

Tuners made by Hauppauge and EverMedia are good choices too.  For example:

Hauppauge WinTV-HVR-2255 Dual tuners:

This one is an internal card.  They have USB tuners too.
