I have an Asus Vivo that has wireless plus bluetooth and is hooked up to my preamp for playback through my audio system. I have JR 20 on it and would like to control it directly from a tablet. How do I go about doing this without a internet hookup? Also are there any mainstream tablets that do not support JR River?

If your computer is connected to your home router (even if the router itself is not connected to internet), this should work fine. Just give the network name of your computer to JRemote/Gizmo.
Should this not work, type the network address of you computer as address in Gizmo (typically 192.168.0.x).
If you have no router, you can anyway force your computer to have a forced fixed IP address (choose 192.168.0.x, with 20<= x <100), and you should be able to type this address in JRemote/Gizmo.

Does this work with Kindle Fire?

Don't know, I do not know the Kindle.
It seems that the Kindle Fire uses a Android-like OS (FireOS), but that it is not Android. You will have to try. After some googling, it seems that it is more or less possible to install a true Android launcher on the Kindle.
But once again, I am clearly not a Kindle specialist.
That said, if the Kindle has an Internet browser, you can activate "WebGizmo" (embedded web server) on MediaCenter, making your library accessible through a web browser.
The address will be displayed by the option panel when you activate the option. It will be something like http://name_of_my_computer:52199/Gizmo/playingnow.html or http://192.168.0.xx:52199/Gizmo/playingnow.html. Just copy it in the address bar of your browser.
