To reproduce:
1. import video file
2. run 'Rebuild Thumbnail' (it's ok now)
3. add cover art, then delete cover art (thumbnail will be deleted too)
4. run 'Rebuild Thumbnail' - no result.
-
My videos switch right back to the thumbnail from the video itself after I erase the cover art. Strange.
-
I think it's not cover art but library issue. I've just tried to erase all thumbnails and then to recreate it. It took 2-3 minutes for MC to create 548 thumbnails but I don't see any of them.
-
What if you erase all using Options > Tree & View > Erase all thumbnails...?
-
yes, and then 'Build missing thumbnails'.
-
yes, and then 'Build missing thumbnails'.
And then you have no thumbnails or you then have thumbnails?
-
I have no thumbnails.
I've just tried to delete c:\Users\...\AppData\Roaming\J River\Media Center 20\Thumbnails\ and to rebuild thumbnails but have no result.
;)

I wonder if there's a file permission error? What if you erase:
C:\Users\[Username]\AppData\Roaming\J River\Media Center 20\Thumbnails

You posted at the same time, and were a step ahead of me!

I'm totally puzzled by your problem.
An uninstall followed by a reinstall?
Sorry to not have other ideas.
-
Do you have hardware accelerate video decoding on in options? I had a similar issue and having that on fixed it
-
Yes. Hardware acceleration was on. Software reinstall also doesn't help :-\
-
I found the reason. When you choose 'External Program (default)' as a playback method and try to rebuild thumbnail it will disappear. Return 'Automatic' as a playback method and thumbnail will return after rebuild.
-
The selected playback method is also used for thumbnail generation, and the way rebuild works is that it simply clears the thumbs, which then tasks MC with generating new ones.
Not sure there is a good solution to solve this when you override the playback method...
-
Why not use default playback method to build thumbnail regardless of program settings?

Why not use default playback method to build thumbnail regardless of program settings?
Yeah, I wondered the same thing. Hendrik?
-
But that would disable me testing thumbnail generation with other playback modes. Just use MCs player, hmkay? :D
