I'm not very familiar with close captioning and subtitles, so I may use the terms incorrectly. I apologize in advance.
MC20 can play subtitles with video that I've ripped from BR or DVD.
MC20 can't play closed captions from video downloaded from TiVo.
VLC will play CC in the same video.
I found the following topic related to MC18, but was wondering where it stood with MC20?

There were rumors that Hendrik is looking into this, but I'm not sure if they're substantiated...
-
Any news?

Hendrik says:
"I looked into it, then I decided that CC are not relevant in Europe, and who cares about the US with their archaic TV system, anyway?
In all seriousness, other things just got in the way, and its not a very high profile feature, but does require quite a bit of work."
So it sounds like it's a big project and we're not sure it's worth it.
-
It'll probably happen sooner or later, but not right now.
-
No worries! Not a big concern for me now, because I don't use CC. Just a feature request. :)

Any progress on adding closed captions for live TV (analog or digital)? It's been available for years on Microsoft MCE, but unfortunately MCE is going away so I'm looking for an alternative. JRiver in general looks very attractive, but the lack of captions is very troubling.

I posted a question about closed captions over a month ago and have not seen an answer yet. Not too long ago Netflix found it to be too technically challenging to provide closed captioning, but now over 80% of their programming is captioned. As far as I know 100% of major broadcast programming is captioned, but I cannot access any of that through JRiver. I know JRiver has posted that this is has been a low priority item. Given the sensitivity that other media players have shown to deaf viewers' issues, I'm wondering when JRiver will step up and resolve this issue.
I have read in this forum that analog broadcast captions can be displayed in JRiver. In the US, all broadcasting has switched to digital signals, so attempting to revert back to analog doesn't seem like a viable solution.

Bump - we really need CC since we have a hearing impaired person in our household, and I'm sure we're not the only ones.
Thanks!

Is this in the development plan for MC22?

Still looking for an answer to this thread!
