Title: remove duplicates - removes all
Post by: Llannis on January 13, 2015, 09:15:24 am
It has happened two times these days. I press "Remove Duplicates" and it removes All the tracks in the playlists. After that I have an empty playlist.

It doesn't happen like that every time, and I haven't found yet a pattern of the problem. Has anyone had this problem before? I searched the database but haven't found something similar.

Thanks

I just did "Remove Duplicates" like 100 times and all the files stayed.

I also made a playlist with duplicates and tested it.  It also worked.

Please advise.

Title: Automatic Deletion of Duplicates
Post by: cws on May 15, 2015, 09:46:45 pm
Hi All,

Just bought the product. Very pleased. javascript:void(0);I likewise have 20K worth of duplicates. I have used the suggested script to find them. Is there a way for all the duplicates to be automatically deleted, but just to leave behind the hightest bit rate versions please?
Or does one simply delete all found duplicates as the originals are not inlcuded in the list (which I doubt).
Cheers CWS

Usually when this happens it is because a network drive is seen twice.

\\nasdrive
and
E:

Set up auto import so MC doesn't see both.  Tools > Import ...

Hover over the files with your mouse to compare two duplicate files.  Note the locations.

Then search for one of the locations and delete the files.

Do a few before you do very many.

An alternate method to fix the problem is to clear your library and import again.  File > Library > Library Manager...

@CWS. Periodically I check the smartlist that I have created to find my duplicates and delete them. I haven't found an automatic way to do that, but it isn't such a trouble to check the smartlist every-now and then
 :)

Also,
I am writing the following so that people won't be misled from the topic of this post.

About the original topic of this post. I had found the pattern that created that strange behavior.

It was this:
When I had already searched for something in the playlist and then pressed "Delete Duplicates", MC used to delete all non-matched entries.

I had reported that and the team of MC fixed the problem.

I haven't had this problem since then.

Make sure your smartlist is reliable!
