this has been happening for a couple months. At the top & bottom of every hour without fail, when I'm listening to audio...16 or 24 bit, the music stops for several seconds then resumes. I have no idea what could be causing this. Any ideas?!

Is there some additional process or application running on your machine that steals CPU resources at those times?
-
At first I thought it was due to TV show recording, though it never used to happen before. But it truly seems consistant and i don't think I have programs starting to record every half hour. I will look at that tonight

Hard drive spinning down?
Maybe set to "never" (for testing) at Control Panel>Power Options> Change Plan Settings> Change Advanced Settings > Hard Drives

Well, it seems it was set to hibernate after 5 hours. I set it to never. Will try anything!
Thx for tip

I usually listen for 2 hours or so during a listening session. Only was able to listen for about an hour over the last 2 nights but since setting the server to never shut down (which i thought I had done long ago) it hasn't stopped. I don't get it because the setting was to hybernate after 5 hours so i can't imagine why it would consistantly have stopped, then started at the top & bottom of every hour.
I also have to check whether Tv recordings are taking place both when it does NOT stop and if it occurs again. i will have more time this weekend to listen and trouble shoot a bit.

Ok.....this is still occurring. At the very top & bottom of each hour the music I'm streaming just stops for about 15-30 seconds then resumes. Each time it has recently happened i have checked to verify that in fact there are new TV recordings starting each time the music stops streaming. But I have recordings scheduled to start & end 1 minute early/late. So, a 7pm show should start recording at 6:59p. Yet.....as far as I can tell, the music streaming stops at :00 & :30....when recordings are set to begin at those times. Any ideas?!

You should capture a log right after you restart from the next crash or hang. First "reset" the log so it isn't too big. To get a log go to "Help>Logging" (make sure the box is checked to enable logging) and then attach it to your next post.
-
Thanks for your reply, CountryBumkin. But it doesn't crash....just stops streaming for 15-30 seconds and then starts right back up from the point it stopped. I don't restart it......

Just post a log after the problem occurs.
Also, this:

Doesn't address this:
Hard drive spinning down?
Maybe set to "never" (for testing) at Control Panel>Power Options> Change Plan Settings> Change Advanced Settings > Hard Drives
...which is the likely culprit.
You might also try enabling play files from memory in the audio options.

Still a log might show where and why the streaming is delaying. I would reset the log then play something until it stops, then capture the log and post it. Of course that doesn't guarantee the developers will look at it.
Ps. It might also help to rename the original post's title so it is more descriptive of the problem (or keep just this in mind for the next time). I think you get more attention (from Users) when the title describes the problem.
