Title: DSD (.DSF) Files Playback & MC20 Configuration
Post by: casper3127 on January 14, 2015, 04:50:10 pm
Hi there,

first post in this forum for me...  :-[

Well, the thing is that I've recently purchased an Audio-GD NFB29 dac/amp and I wanted to know if this little beast is capable of playing DSD files at their native resolution through JRiver before clicking the button and purchasing the MC.  ?

http://www.audio-gd.com/Pro/Headphoneamp/NFB29/NFB29EN.htm (http://www.audio-gd.com/Pro/Headphoneamp/NFB29/NFB29EN.htm)

I'm actually listening to my music through the WASAPI driver, already configured in JRiver.

and the DSP Studio options are as follows

but when playing these DSD files I get the following message

and it sounds dull with any sort of Dynamic Range... As if I were listening to some crappy 96Kbps files.

Tips: I'm connecting my NFB29 to the PC through USB. My sound card seems not be compatible with ASIO output drivers since God knows how many times I've tried to go through Foobar2000 with no success.

What am I not doing? Or what's worse, what am I doing wrong?

Thank you all in advance for your support.

 :) :) :)

Try enabling DSD bitstreaming if your DAC supports it.  Options > Audio > Bitstreaming.

Thanks for the help Matt.

I've tried it with no success at all.

Tried also through the DSP Studio with Output Encoding DSD in DoP format and 2xDSD in DoP format since the previous image shows that "as I assume" MC was detecting this input with no outcoming sound to be described as music.

Regards.

I have purchased a few Albums of dsf files which are 11289 kbps. I am playing these by a digital transfer from my PC to a Calyx DAC 24/192 and then The DarkStar balanced headphone amplifier and Sennheiser HD 800 headphones. The sound is fantastic. However, if I make a change part way through a dsf track to a new dsf album Media 20 crashes on me.

Well... As far as I've found after interchanging some mails with Mr. Kingwa, CEO of Audio-GD is that his products through Wasapi have no DSD capabilities.  ? ? ?

Asked about developing in the future any driver working with wasapi and fully compatible with DSD/DXD.

Let's wait for what I get from him.

The reply I've got from Audio-GD is as follows:

My question:

Thank you so much Mr. Kingwa,

it's quite clear to me that unless Asio output drivers are used for listening at DsD files, the nfb29 is not capable of their playback. No matter what player it's being used.

Do you hace planned to develop any wasapi &DSD compatible driver for the nfb29?

Regards,

His answer:

Dear Inaki,
You just select the ASIO in the output device, the NFB29 can playback DSD.
Kingwa

 ? ? ?

Does anybody know if it wil be possible in a near future to play DSD files through wasapi & JRiver MC 20?

Thank you all.

You can play DSD through WASAPI today.  It uses DoP.
