Hello All,
I have an extra PC running Win 8.1 Intel i7 3770 with 8gb ram 2tb hard drive I would like to use for music, I am trying to figure out what I will need to connect to my home stereo via ethernet cable. As you probably figured I am using JRiver MC20.
Some input would be greatyl appreciated.
Thank you,
John

A bit hard to comment when you haven't explained your end point for you ethernet cable.
Do you have an amp or receiver with an etherent input?

I'm guessing what you're missing is the role a DAC plays in all of this. Essentially, if you want any kind of quality sound, you'll need to get an external DAC. There's a whole section dedicated to that topic, but the basics are you take the digital sound out of the computer into the DAC via either SPDIF or USB, and the DAC sends the analog signal into your stereo via an aux or tape input. Make sense?

And
I have not seen any quality DAC's that accept data on a network cable.

You should have a look at Rendu gear http://www.rendu.sonore.us/rendu.html (http://www.rendu.sonore.us/rendu.html)

OK I admit Sonore equipment is good and qualifies, but the NAD is just a module!
