Title: Media Server Options
Post by: jgourd on October 08, 2003, 03:02:44 pm
If MC already does this then forget I even asked.

Can I setup Media server to transcode on the fly from my high bitrate files to something that will fit the bandwidth of my outgoing cable modem. Most of the time when I listen to my stuff (that is at home) from work it skips.

Yes, it's on our list. It's a liittle harder than for TiVo because of the method of sharing...

It is a Linux based piece of Hi Fi equipment that streams MP3s from a PC connected to a network. Sonic Blue was selling them last year but they are now discontinued.

Here is more info (http://search.ebay.com/search/search.dll?cgiurl=http%3A%2F%2Fcgi.ebay.com%2Fws%2F&krd=1&from=R8&MfcISAPICommand=GetResult&ht=1&SortProperty=MetaEndSort&query=RIO+receiver)

I took a quick look, and there are a lot of negatives: it's been discontinued, the protocol is non-standard but doable (it uses NFS, and nothing else out there is using this, so any code I write for this will not help with other devices later on).

If there's a lot of demand it'll erase the negatives. How many of y'all have one?

I have one, and if MC supported it I'd buy a bunch more off Ebay  ;D
