I am importing some compilation albums
Some of the files had a value for album artist so album artist auto ends up with the artist instead of multiple artist.
I'm pretty sure in the past if I cleared the album artist value for all files in the album, album artist(auto) would get set to multiple artist.
That is not happening.
-
I've been using mp3tag to regenereate the tags (or clearing them) and it has worked a treat so far. From 2600 albums to 400.
-
For me if I have an album with assorted artist names, it puts (Multiple Artists) into the Album Artist (auto) tag.
All the files from the album need to be stored in the same folder on the hard drive of course.
-
They are in the same folder.
The issue was when I imported them some of the files had a value in the album artist tag.
As a result instead of getting (Multiple Artists) I got the Artist.
In the past I'm pretty sure if I just cleared the album artist tag the Album Artist (auto) tag would update to (Multiple Artists).
That is not happening.
If I change the album artist tag to some value the Album Artist (auto) tag also updates to that value.
If I then clear the album artist tag the Album Artist (auto) tag reverts to the artist again not (Multiple Artists)

Are there multiple artists on the album? What's the Artist field filled to for each file? And what does Album Artist (auto) fill to?
-
There are multiple artists.
The Artist tag has an artist name, the Album Artist (auto) is filling to the same value

Would you be willing to share a library backup with me? matt at jriver dot com.
Let me know what album you're describing.
Thanks.
-
Sure.
I am doing a bunch of cleanup.
Here is a case if you see the file name when these files were originally imported multiple artist worked.
This was quite a while ago.
As part of my cleanup project what I am trying to do is put these files into years.
Genre is Billboard Country
I have attached a picture of 1948 as an example.
I will send a library backup shortly
-
You have both albums:
1948 - Billboard Country Top Hits
1949 - Billboard Country Top Hits
In this same folder:
\\UNRAID1\Audio\(Multiple Artists)\Billboard Top Country Singles\
That causes trouble, and it's tripping up the parser.
If I erase everything but '1948 - Billboard Country Top Hits' from the library, that then shows multiple artists properly.
-
So the parser is looking at more than what I have on the screen?
-
You can't put multiple albums in the same folder (and expect the parser to work).
I'd recommend doing a Rename and using [Album] in the filename rule.
-
What I m trying to do now is split up this folder.
Using the date field I have changed the album name.
In pane view I select this new album.
So is the parser looking at more than what I have selected?

For starters it counts the number of albums in a folder. You want the count to be one.
-
I'm trying not to seem dense here.
Where is it counting albums?
My folder on disk is \\UNRAID1\Audio\(Multiple Artists)\Billboard Top Country Singles
all the files are disc-track-name
I am trying to split album "Billboard Top Country Singles" into years
I have started by changing the library.
As soon as I change the files in the library is that where I now have multiple albums.
If so how do I split an album.
