I use MC20 in a client server setup.
If I use a local library with MC and watch a show then the watched status is updated only at the very end of the program i.e. you have to watch all the credits too.
If I watch a show via DLNA on my TV then as soon as I start watching the program it is marked as watched and the status sticks on the server.
If I use MC and load the server library and watch a show it will temporally get marked as watched locally after watching the credits but it does not update the server and so resets to unwatched when restarting the client.
I recently upgraded to MC20 from MC19 and I am sure that MC19 behaved correctly in that once part watched on the client the status would be updated on the server.
Can anyone confirm this behaviour or have I setup something wrongly?

For anything to be written to the server, you need to have the server set to use authentication (login, password).

I am seeing this behavior also. Watched status on the client does not stick. I'm not sure when it started, but I know this wasn't happening more than a month ago, and I've been installing the latest version shortly after it's release. I'll do some more checking and make a more detailed response when I can.

It is working properly on my system. What about the "auto sync with server" setting. Is that box checked under Media Network>Client Options? There is the same setting/selection on both the Client and Server.

It was changed recently to require 90% playback to count as watched. Is this the issue?

Thanks for the replies.
Setting the server to require authentication and entering a username and password in the client does fix the watched status not sticking.
But I do find playing a few seconds via DLNA causes a show to be marked as watched.
Is there a setting somewhere I can adjust this?

I figured out what's going on in my case. Maybe this is part of what you're seeing.
I'm watching videos on a client, which is properly connected to the library server with username/password.
When I finish a video, the client shows the new watched status correctly. But if I power off the client in less than 60 seconds after the video finishes, the server never gets the watched status updated from the client. The next time the client is turned on, the episode I just watched is shown as never watched, and the server shows it as never watched.
If I finish a video, and leave the client powered on, the server will update to show the status as watched about 1 minute after the video finishes. And then rebooting the client, the watched status will now stick.
So the workaround for this is to leave the client powered on for at least a minute after the last video finishes.
I think this could be a fix request, to have the client update the watched status to the server immediately, rather than wait a minute. Typically when I finish a video, I power off the client right away.

to make sure things "stick" run a manual sync File=Library=>Sync. If the auto sync in option is checked this could take a couple of seconds, or a couple of minutes ... waiting a minute normally would do it but not always. Not a bug btw
