Please have a look on the view which I had since MC15 and was replicated on all the following releases until MC19.
From Mc 20 ahead, this view has been overwritten by the default views.
I tried several times and with several methods to re-create it, but every time it reverses to the default one.
Here the view in MC 19
(http://i59.tinypic.com/2llyamv.jpg)
and here what happens in MC20
(http://i58.tinypic.com/t8q1vs.jpg)
please try to have a look on this and let me know how may I have back my customized view.
Regards
-
Same over here. Mine is with Artist View - it will not change no matter what I try to do.
VP
-
Thanks for the screenshots. That explains a lot about what I needed to test to try to recreate VP's issue.
-
I've had the same problem as well. But, can get them back through presets.
-
In MC20, if you try to recreate the view as in my MC19 picture, and then you click on "Albums" view and back on "Album copy" ( the customizwd view) , the customization is lost.
thanks to have a look on this, and regards.
-
My artist view is getting even weirder. Yesterday my custom columns were nowhere to be seen - like all day.
Then at first start today - I could see my "DR" column in place. Then after about 90 minutes - I shut down to have some brekky - came back, fired up MC and now the column is gone again.
Wow - this is bizarre.

Hi guys
I'm sure Glynor will find out the problem, but in the mean time have you tried to save the view from the "customize" wizard before it "disappears"? Then try to set up a new view using it as the template by the load button? (from the server PC of course).
Maybe there are expression errors -- I couldn't save a view as a template and when I set the tag window to show all, I saw errors coming from an old experiment Mr. C was helping me with. (you know a paragraph of Regex I didn't understand but copied and pasted it in anyway :D) Maybe some of the newer expression language could be in conflict with past versions?

I have copied my existing view, set up a brand new one and done every other possible thing I could see - nothing I can do will allow the "Artist" view actually make my specific column changes "stick". They stay for the session - and then once I exit - they are gone.
And again - this is a standalone workstation with a standalone library. No client server action or anything like that.

I'll check it out when I can. I've been dealing with a sick kid. :(

Yes I remember, but maybe the OP has a different set-up .. anyways this is pretty crazy. The only thing I could think of doing it nuking the stock view -- you can always reload it. Something must be in conflict with it .. thumbnail text, expression. Frustrating :(
I've been dealing with a sick kid. :(
ah thats rough ... good luck with that
-
I have tried everything, included the "save" button in customization, of course on the server.
good luck with your kid!

I absolutely dont want to stress anyone, (I can wait) but I'd only like, if possible, a forecast when the problem will be fixed.
Thanks in advance and regards :) :)

I customize the columns and they're preserved between a restart. I'm not sure what is different.
Is it possible your library is stored someplace that's read-only? Make a new library at a folder you know you control and try that.

Matt,
In my case (not the OP) - my library is standalone and completely accessible with no possibility of Read Only.
I can customize any other View except Artist.
Would like to know what I can do to get this right.
VP
-
Doh! I forgot to test.
Matt, they're losing Columns in the Categories when in details view, which I haven't tested in a long while.
-
Matt,
The problem is in that specific view, that I reported as picture.
My library is NOT read only; remember that I have this problem since version 20; before it was working and I haven't modifyed anything.
If you try to modify the view like my picture as in MC19, you will notice that going to another view and coming back, (even if saved) it will revert to the default one.

In order to facilitate to find what's wrong here a sequence of screens that show how I tryed to customize my view, which was what I exactly did on MC15 and it was replicated until MC19.
Starting point is the view album that I want to customize Screenshot
(http://i58.tinypic.com/1i0mq9.jpg)
The album is saved as copy
(http://i61.tinypic.com/i3xb40.jpg)
The new view "album copy" has been created
(http://i59.tinypic.com/dzb1vk.jpg)
Here the customized view:
Here the detail of the album by track which has been customized as well
(http://i62.tinypic.com/2js7kk.jpg)
Now I go on one of the default views, album in this case
(http://i62.tinypic.com/2i0uag5.jpg)
Now, coming back on my view, you can see that on the view on the bottom, the one by track, the customization is lost
(http://i60.tinypic.com/14v199d.jpg)
Maybe this can help, but if I do something wrong please let me know
regards

I've had the same problem and it reverts randomly. Sometimes it holds for a while and poof; it reverts. It may last a day, or a week, but it will not last.
I've tried as both a new view and overwriting the view. Does not matter.
-
Sgucci99, I followed your screenshots as best I could to reproduce the issue here. However when I do it my customization sticks no problem.
It's a mystery.
-
Sometimes is the album view (the upper) sometimes the track view (the bottom) which is lost.....but everytime it happens.
-

Same here. When I started MC for the first time this morning - (after a night of total shutdown) - my DR column appeared as I need it to. Then I shut down around 9:00am and reopened at 10:30am and the column was gone.
Reopened again just now and it's still gone. Bizarre.
VP
-
It look like to happen when I try to eliminate the "rating" column.
If I cancel from the album view, the rating pops up on the track view, and the customization is lost, .and viceversa.
Maybe for a strange reason when the rating column is eliminated from both the views, album and track, the columns revert to the default.
-
No the problem is not the rating, it is randomic. But Always after the customization going to another view and coming back it is a mess.
Sometimes on the first time, sometime else after several steps. But Always happens.
Again on MC19 it was perfect.
-
I'm struggling a little because I just haven't been able to reproduce any problem.
Can you find a series of steps that always reproduces a misbehavior? If so, please post the steps.
Thanks.
-
Matt,
The behavior that most often causes the relapse is when in Standard View (List Style>Details) and I double click on an artist in my "Artist" view to bring up the album listing (the view over the view which will list the individual tracks and albums). If I edit this "view over the view", the underlying view (in this case "Artists") will oft times revert to the original view.
It doesn't happen every time, but does cause the reaction the most. I hope I haven't confused you trying to explain it.
I have learned to save presets, but it is still an annoyance.
Hope this helps.
-
Thanks for your interest.
Now a new sequence of screenshots that shows the issue.
1 - Start from album and click on "add library view"
2 - Select "Empty view " and click "Ok"
3 - On the "Customize view" screen...
4 - ...select "categories" and
(http://i62.tinypic.com/mrqwcg.jpg)
5 - Add "Artist-Album-Year...
6 - here the screen
(http://i62.tinypic.com/11c6rmq.jpg)
7 - And click on "Ok"
8 - this is the screen
(http://i62.tinypic.com/293kccw.jpg)
9 - Now select "Details" from "List Style"
10 - and this is the view got still to customize
(http://i62.tinypic.com/2ewnoeu.jpg)
11 - take the first column off
(http://i58.tinypic.com/25rgwn7.jpg)
12 - and continue the customization, like in the picture
(http://i59.tinypic.com/2vbx2wz.jpg)
13 - Going to the "album" view
(http://i61.tinypic.com/dw2g7d.jpg)
14 - and going back on the customized view, nothing happens, the customized screen is still there, the problem is not here.
15 - Now double click on one of the row in order to see the details of the tracks
(http://i57.tinypic.com/5485tk.jpg)
16 - and try to customize this view by track
(http://i61.tinypic.com/2rc5p1s.jpg)
17 - Now going to another view, "album" for example
(http://i62.tinypic.com/zna638.jpg)
18 - and going back on the "new library view" NOW the customization DISAPPEARS
(http://i57.tinypic.com/2irkx9d.jpg)
The problem arises when you want to customize the detailed view by track.
I hope this helps
Regards
-
I've added more screenshot to highlighted the problem.
But in summary, if you modify the view by artist-album, only, it works.
The problem arises when you try to customize BOTH the view, by artist -album AND by track (the view obtained by doubleclicking on album).
Doing that, the views revert to the default ones.
-
I'm facing exactly the same problems as described by the o.p..
I haven't found any workaround except using standard views: it is a bit frustrating
as MC seems to follow what you look for but it eventually reverts to something different.
-
I strongly suspect that the underlying problem is related to the weirdness I found here (and maybe to the fixes):

Is there some other hole still there?

Me too.
As am I. Artists view over here won't save any changes at all.

Same problems for me and others in the Mac version. Any changes to existing views aren't saved after a restart. You can save a new view in MC but it doesn't appear in the "Load A Saved View" screen even though it's actually saved on the disk. Seems like it could be a directory path issue in MC.
http://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php?topic=96121.0
Would sure be nice to get someone at JRiver to try and duplicate this.
-
Unfortunately the problem is still there, trying to customize both the views, by album and by track, doesn't work, and if you follow my last screenshots, it should be evident.
I'd only like to have the same functionality as in MC19.

You did fix that particular problem, but if you read the thread carefully, I saw some other oddball behavior of Category style Views when in Details mode. I'm guessing, but I think it could be related.

I am using Win7x64 not Mac version.
I agree, changes to existing views aren't saved.

Unfortunately doesn't look like we're having much success getting anyone from JRiver to respond. Maybe one of the regulars with a high post count could confirm the problem and add their voice to motivate JRiver.

So, Matt always asks to remove as much complexity as possible, so here goes, with the latest build...
In a simple "album Artist (Auto) / Album" panes view, grouped by album artist (auto)...
I add two columns, "Image (small icon)" and "Image (small thumbnail)"
Now change the grouping, I went for Artist (a-z)
The two columns added above disappear.
-
I can reproduce marko's case. Very odd!
The expectation would clearly be for those to remain, would it not?
Edit:
I figured it out. For some reason it forcefully removes all image columns and re-adds an appropriate image column for the selected grouping.
This seems intentional behavior, as odd as it may be.
Edit2:
I also managed to reproduce Sgucci99's problem. Thats even more odd!
-

I would have thought the expectation is to allow everything that a user wants/needs to see - to remain. Regardless of what the program thinks is "intended".
The whole point of customizing views should be to let us run. If I want a single field to appear in a view - I should be able to set that and trust the program to leave it as I intended?

Next build:
Fixed: Customizing a grouping details view could reset the accompanying grouping view, and vice versa.
This fixes the bug reported by Sgucci99 above.
Note that the image column is supposed to behave a bit like auto-magic, and since the code does this very intentional, its clearly not a bug, so i'll leave it be for now.
-
I'm not sure to have understood if the issue it is supposed to be fixed now or if it will be later.
Anyway the situation is still the same, not only always the image column pops up again but also the other added colums disapear.
My request is very simple : I had some views in MC 19, some with images, some others without, and I'd like to have the same in MC20.

Hendrik posted today (March 13) that the fix will be in the "next" build. The current beta build is .0.82 released March 12, so that means the fix will be in build .083 or higher.

ok, thanks
