Title: UK EPG Question (freeview)
Post by: trevoraiston on February 23, 2015, 09:39:36 pm
Downloaded and installed jriver with a view to move away from Wmc mainly to improve audio experience. But also because of dissatisfaction with missing data in Wmc EPG.

But stumbling at 1st hurdle.  Software recognises dual tuner,  identifies available TV channels.  But EPG is empty prompting no me to match channel with a corresponding description.  The auto button does not work meaning I'm having to manually match up 100+ chanellsto to  get a working guide.

What am I doing wrong?

Make sure you have the latest version from the top of the MC20 board.

Then set up the EPG.

Sorry not being deliberately stupid here.  Is the board the program, this webpage, some other part of of the UI. My post does say NEWBIE?

Here is the list of boards:
http://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php

On our wiki, you could read the topic called "Updates".

On the wiki, you will also find a topic on "EPG".

http://wiki.jriver.com/index.php/Category:Frequently_Asked_Questions

There are several TV topics there, as well.

Got latest version , twice uninstalled, reinstalled Read wikis, posts and FAQ's

Still end up at the same place 220+ unlinked tv channels which I  apparently have to manually link with some descriptor file because the automatic link doesn't work.

If you open "Manage Channels..." on Television properties, do you see channel number in front of each channel name in the list?

If that is the case, it may be the result of a bug that I just discovered (after reading your posts).  Please wait for a few days for a new build to be posted on the Media Center 20 board.

Thanks.

Rather than having you wait for a new build, I am providing a patch, as linked below.  You can try it if you wish.

https://www.dropbox.com/s/k8hq2ydxpoiypcl/Media%20Center%2020.zip?dl=0

First make sure you have the latest build installed (MC20.0.74), then download, unzip, and copy "Media Center 20.exe" into MC installation folder.

Some progress (I think).  But why in some cases do I have 2 or more listings for same channel,  Because I receive transmission from a England/Scotland border transmitter I would sometimes get an English and Scottish version of same channel in WMC, but never 3!

You can examine channels in Tools > Options > Television > Manage Channels... and see the details of each channel.  Can you identify something in common?

A long time ago, we treat different audio streams in DVB channels as separate channels.  I have changed that behavior a while ago.  I wonder if it sneaked back.

You can hide all channels that you think are duplicates.

<SIGH> This is getting very tiresome :'(

Run software > Television > choose a progreamm to watch (live) > Error a device attached to the system is not functionin!  But error doesnt tell me what?

Happens on all channels/programmes

TV output fine on WMC?

Why am I BETA testing a supposedly ALPHA version of an application?

The attitude won't help.  Just post the question.

The duplicates seem to be caused by a TV station listing a channel with two different Network ID.  When they appear with two network IDs we treat them as two channels.  You can try playing the two channels and see if they actually carry the same programs.  Then you can hide one of them.

Neither will patronising remarks like that jimh.  I note you not did pickup the software bug in your earlier replies which I found just as patronising and unhelpful.   My comments still stand

I don't think we're your type.  There are a lot of other choices out there.
