Title: Audigy Sound Card Settings for MC?
Post by: Johnny Stork on February 25, 2015, 12:27:47 pm
Cant get anything to play under Mint 17 with a SB Audigy card. Have tried

sysdefault"CARD=Audigy2 [ALSA]
hw:CARD=Audigy2,DEV=0 [ALSA]
hw:CARD=Audigy2,DEV=1 [ALSA]
front:CARD=Audigy2,DEV=0 [ALSA]

When you say it doesn't play do you mean
a) no sound?
or
b) a error message?

If a, then check the system mixer settings

if b, you either have a sample rate issue or a output format issue.

Use the front: device first.

The resampling can be done in dsp studio. You could start by setting everything to 48k. That's a really common rate. If that doesn't work, try 44.1k.

If the problem is a output format issue, from a command line run
/usr/lib/jriver/Media\ Center\ 20/alsacap

look for the supported formats (i.e.) S16_LE
In the Audio Device settings in MC choose one of those (instead of Auto) and try again.

Your soundcard may be claiming a format it doesn't handle at some given sample rate.
