Title: Lip synch problems
Post by: trevoraiston on March 05, 2015, 02:33:13 pm
Read through thread and tried suggestions, but still have lipsynch issues in any app outside of jriver (e.g amazon prime).

Am earlier posters said update to 20.0.80 solved his probs.  How can I get this version, downloads shows .63 same as mine?

You can download it from the sticky topic on top of this forum section, or set Help > Update Channels > Stable to Latest then check for updates.

Try this, from the first post (http://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php?topic=92593.0), "You may need to adjust the buffer size down in Options > Audio > Device settings.  I used 10ms."

THanks guys found the sticky after posting and installed.  But no improvement despite taking buffering down to 10 then 5 then min hardware :-(

You also need to adjust the buffer in Tools > Options > Audio > Advanced > Live Playback Latency. Mine is set to Minimum.

Thanks I'd missed that.  But set it tested no difference.  Rebooted,  no difference.

Might have to wait for another update,  shame.

Just updated my hardware drivers, changed settings, rebooted etc.  Still synch problems.

Hmmm, i prefer jriver 'sound and video' but on my PC for progs external to jriver principally Amazon prime streaming and BBC  iplayer its no go at the moment.

But thanks for your input

The latency of the WDM driver itself is so low that an update to JRiver won't even be able to make a noticeable difference. Latency is also introduced by the hardware. What are you using for audio output? Also, have you tried using WASAPI vs ASIO?

Thanks for the suggestion. Current output is via onboard intel display audio (HDMI) which is waspi.  I was using a better separate card but for a variety of mboard configuration issues ditched for onboard.  But just ordered another sata controller so I can refit my better quality video card.  Output will still be via hdmi.

SHould fit over the weekend and I'll post result

Fitted Sapphire 11192-06-20G HD6670 1GB Ultimate Graphics Card and video/audio sync problems if anything slightly worse with all video apps outside of MC (ie BBC iPlayer, Amazon instant, etc) Buffering at either 5mill or hardware minimum.

ANything else I can try?

Disable all options in the DSP Studio.
Reduce the playback device's buffer size to its minimum.
If you're using ASIO, reduce the latency/buffer size in the device's ASIO Control Panel.
Set live playback latency to the minimum size.

Beyond that, I'm not sure that there's anything you can do to further reduce latency.

If you're sending HDMI out from the PC to a television and using the built-in speakers, I don't believe it will be possible to have accurate lip-sync at all.
The display expects that audio and video are being sent in sync and will be adding a delay the audio to sync it up - which would normally be a good thing, but not in this case.
If the HDMI signal is being sent to an external device like a receiver, it's possible that you would not have this automatic sync correction being applied, which would allow you to sync things up.
Most televisions have a minimum of 20ms latency, and you should be able to get the total WDM driver latency below that.

Hi 6233638 , thanks for the input.

Only option in DSP studio is output format Dolby Digital. Haven't been able to get any other output format to work with hdmi/receiver. Playback buffer is at minimum.

Output to Yamaha Receiver.

Problem only occurs using WDM driver as default in windows and then non JRiver video apps i.e BBC iplayer.

Cant help feeling as a new user of JRiver there is something really basic I am missing or silly I am doing.  But two installs later and no further forward.  Oh well if I decide to purchase I'll keep an eye open for future releases.

Dolby Digital encoding definitely should not be required if you are outputting via HDMI.
But as I said, HDMI may have uncorrectable lip-sync errors if something is applying automatic lip-sync correction.

I'd check the receiver to see if it's possible to set a negative lip-sync correction. (delaying the video rather than the audio)

Thanks again.  Think I'll backtrack and see if anyone can assist with output only to dolby issue.  Then pursue from there
