Title: Which headset would you recommend for a smart phone ?
Post by: TCube on March 07, 2015, 07:50:01 am
Hello,

Context : I bought a new high-end phone branded Nokia  hoping to a get a "collector" before it's engraved MS on every one of them   :)

So this new one is full HD with stereo Mic.
I'm listening Music on SD card / NNedium Play and Flac Player SD. The latest release of Nokia Mix got an equalizer (-12/+12) and Dolby Surround.

Source is always the same MC19 high MP3 (320 Kbs VBR) with R128 processing and Flac files.
What's your recommendation for "half open" headsets - I do go to work with my bicycle 7 months out of 12 - with mike and some preset sound level  ?

Don't kill me with over priced but please give an hint  8)   'cause I'm a bit at lost on Amazon :P
Thanks a lot
Tc

The specs. for my phone are the following :

Ps 3/31. Got it 😉.  for smartphone use only with EAC : Sennheiser PX 100 II i.  70 euros . Excellent ! With Cortana I don't even need to handle the Nokia in and out of my backpack . Can be folded tiny.

Follow up.
I went looking around for more enjoyable headphones.  Sennheiser PX 100 II i above are just a nice EAC commodity  5 days out of 7.

Tips from Head-Fi : "... Look around for Superlux 668b half-open so you can still hear a bit of the traffic around" ..

All right  ;D
First glance 58 euros here  : http://www.amazon.fr/Superlux-HD668B-Casque-de-studio/dp/B003JOETX8/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1428483967&sr=8-1&keywords=superlux+668b
Next look up for Europe 26 euros here : http://www.thomann.de/fr/superlux_hd668_b.htm
Change the ear pads :
Here 21 euros from Europe  : http://www.thomann.de/fr/akg_k240270271_velour_ohrpolster.htm?ref=prod_rel_240342_1
Here 10 euros from the States : https://head-direct.com/Products/?act=detail&id=117

Delivery "en sus" as we say here.

I agree, you pay as much for the ear-pads as for the Headphones and none of them are "memory-foam" but they are soft and velors is quite a + (original are "car-plastic-bumpers-sweaty-unbearable").
Cables are really good and "jack-in" in headphones is Just brillant !

Got them through 20 hours of pink noise at night for the drivers : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZXtimhT-ff4&feature=youtu.be

My personal review Disclaimer :
- This is intended for use with Nokia Mix software where you have 16 equalizer presets + 1 preset personalized.
- This is intended mostly for "playlists" use on a Nokia Smartphone, thus where a "playlist" is mostly a "Genre" for tuning up with "Equalizer" is way too easy +  3 different Dolby settings.
- My use implies the Nokia is Ok with driving correctly the Superlux 668b : it does  - you may reach the volume settings between 25/30 @ volume level but it will be still "loud enough" and bearable" - 98 db - you don't get warnings for sound level may damage ... etc.)

Conclusion :
- It's very light - it holds on on your head - even if you think your intellect is the size of the Planet.
- It's semi open  ... fine for some sports and outdoors  and with new pads you don't disturb people either on the Metro/Bus (the Sennheiser are more open, obviously : a pain for the person next to U)
- I can have sunglasses, no discomfort.
- With a Nokia your can drive it ok powerwise.
- So fun to set up with Nokia Mix (Preset + Dolby)

Rgds

Hello
Superlux = a few people quite fancied those on smart phones (kind of .. Dad, where did you find those ? Can you offer them to me ...see my grades are good *)
I'll get these, semi open as well, and velour ear pads included ! Worth trying if these velour are fine and design looks way better cool.
37 euros overall door to door.

I think I will try together with that :

Wouldn't this be cool 😎 this plugged into the headsets & my phone on Bluetooth...

Edit 17/05

Hello !
Tested with Nokia / Xbox Music / Nokia Mix / Flac Sd Player / Molly  Player , ect. (I'm just right handed so plugged into the left drive of the headphones .. got to get use to it).
Next should be with JRiver MC and NMedium Play. Some interesting features I don't need : cars / Sync and switch from 2 blue tooth devices

Works with Cortana but isn't compatible with Dolby presets from my music app. So, keep you cable near by anyway.

Overall  31 + 18 euros  ;D  ...  Fair enough to listen your playlists anywhere you go on which ever locomotion mode on Studio headset. Synced within seconds with WP 8.1. Sound is good !
