Title: Windows 8/10 WIN-X context menu problem
Post by: nonsub on April 02, 2015, 08:29:32 pm
I am running 10 preview but the same problem has been reported on Win 8. Latest MC build.

The Windows WIN-X/right click start menu fails to launch most items. The fix is to disable ....X64....JRShellExt.dll (only need to disable one particular entry) and after logging off/on or restarting explorer.exe all items work.

Seems like others had same issue in 2013

Why isn't there any response from JRiver on this or the other related threads? Issue is still not fixed and requires disabling JRiver context menu handler each time a product update gets installed!!!

Shell extensions are optional.  You can set them in Tools>Options>General.

Thanks Jim. This is a confirmed bug though? I would be nice to have the context menu functionality without breaking part of Windows?

No.  It's not a known problem.  I just tried it with shell extensions enabled (on Win8).  The Windows X menu works for me.  Left and right click.

I can't explain what you're seeing.

OK thanks for checking. I am using Win 10 Preview which of course is unsupported. I had the same issue with 8.1 though and there is at least one other thread with the same problem... that's how I found the solution originally (to disable the shell extension.)

Here is how I can reproduce... It is not all Windows items that won't launch but these for sure: Right click Start Menu (of course,) > Event Viewer (this is one item for sure.) It doesn't launch. Disable the extension and log off/back on and it works.

thx

Right click on Event Viewer works for Win8.
