Title: Difference between Auto-Import and Context Menu Import ?
Post by: kstuart on April 10, 2015, 06:46:56 pm
Is there any difference in the resulting import between:

* Auto-Import

and

* Windows Explorer right-click MediaCenter -> Import

??

Especially the configure Import options:

* Import these file types

and

* Apply these tags

??

And/or any other differences ?

Thanks.

Thanks.   Evidently the answer is that context menu import does not apply tags, and imports everything in the folder(s).

Carnac is also not applied to those import methods.  Nor do they apply to files which are "Imported when played" (if this is turned on).

All of those methods are "clean" ways to import files. If you want the advanced features of the Folder Settings dialog, you have to set up Folders in Auto-Import, or add your rules and filters to the Import a Single Folder dialog.

Note that Carnac, filters, and Tag On Import rules are all still applied even if Background Importing is disabled.  So, you are free to set up a standard list of Watched Folders, even if having Background Auto-Importing enabled doesn't work for you for some reason. You can just trigger the Run Auto-Import Now command when you want them to be scanned (and this can be automated, as described in the Auto-Import wiki article above).

PS. You, along with this guy (http://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php?topic=96838.0), inspired me to fix up the Tag On Import wiki article (http://wiki.jriver.com/index.php/Tag_on_Import) finally.  You might want to check it out.
