Title: Media Server basics
Post by: mindracing on October 01, 2003, 10:03:32 am
I have 3 notebooks connected via a wireless LAN.

I would like to be able to access my music from the other 2 machines via media centre.

How do I go about this?
Do I need MC installed on each machine?
How can I get media server to start as soon as MC is launched?

Any help appreciated.

Install MC on all 3 laptops.

Run Media Server on the one with the library. There's a setting in options to run at startup.

Then when you create a library on the other two laptops, instead of a pathname for where to keep the database, give the IP address and port of the laptop with Media Server running on it.

Yes, you need MC9 on each computer, and the Media Server on--it's on by default. (and obviously the computer on).  Then you need the IP addresses of the computer you want to connect to.  You can go in the server and password protect your library if you want.  It works great!!
