Title: Can't give exclusive audio access to MC
Post by: Humbledore on April 21, 2015, 03:55:46 am
Hi,
I have just installed MC on a Win 7 x64 PC but can no longer (as the case was on my Win 8 PC) give exlusive audio access to MC despite I have all the settings required (I think), according to this wiki:

http://wiki.jriver.com/index.php/Exclusive_Access

When a Windows OS/software sound is triggered the MC playback stops.

What have I missed?

Thanks!

Thanks!
I believe exclusive access only applies to WASAPI or ASIO.
Are using any of these as your audio device?

I am using WASAPI and so I did at my Win 8 machine. I have solved it by disabling all the Windows sounds that were distracting MC...
Thanks!

This is possibly a problem with your audio device driver.  What's the situation there?

The audio device driver is the same as it was at the Win 8 machine: Bowers & Wilkins MM-1. It seems to be working correctly... How can I identify any problem?

Did you try to use another playback device as the standard Windows playback device ?
Then MC can lock your MM-1 exclusively.

I have mounted a small speaker to the on-board sound device (and powered it off so it is silent) and chosen that as the windows standard playback device. MC can now have my other sound card for it self.
If I want any other windows app, eg. Internet Explorer to play, I just have to change the windows standard output to the new JRiver wdm driver.

mbagge, thank you for your advice! I don't have any suitable device to add to my PC but since I turned off Windows sounds I will believe this problem is a minor one for me right now. When Win 10 arrives later this year I will move MC to a new machine, let's see then... :-)
