Title: My system won't go loud anymore
Post by: zenpmd on April 22, 2015, 06:47:41 am
Just referring to my headphones, previously I would ont be able to listen on full volume it would be so loud on my Beyerdyanmic 770.

I have turned off any volume control in J River and windows volume is set to 100. Is there something somewhere lowering it? I cant find it!! At full volume you can see the green bars are low on the output in control panel:

Thanks!

The images are working fine for me.
As to your problem: without much information to go on, it's difficult to say what the cause might be.

I would suggest that you check MC is outputting to your DAC via WASAPI, and that you have the "Maximize device volume during playback" option enabled in the device settings.
Setting the volume mode to disabled should lock it to 100%, but maybe set it to "internal volume" at 100% instead, and check that Volume Protection is disabled.
If that doesn't fix it, post an image of the Audio Path when something is playing. (the far-right icon in the upper-right section of the player should display it)

It sounds like this is a new problem, but I would also mention that your Benchmark DAC2 ships with 10dB of passive attenuation on the headphone outputs by default, and can be configured to 20dB or 0dB if you need the output to be louder or quieter.

I think I solved it - the volume standardisation was checked... Weird as I didnt check this myself. Could it have happened automatically following the recent update?

I assume you mean Volume Leveling.
It will make playback quieter, but everything should then be at an equal level.

The DAC2 should have more than enough gain spare on its headphone output to compensate for this.
With my headphones, I have the passive attenuators at -20dB and generally have the volume somewhere between zero and a quarter turn of the dial.

With your Beyers, perhaps you should set the passive attenuators to 0dB if you have left it at the stock -10dB.
