Title: Long start up time, is it normal?

Hi

Just downloaded MC9.1 to trial with new 3G iPod 20GB

Batch ripping CD's into WAV to encode later.

PIII 933
512Mb
Windows XP Pro
No other apps running
ADSL
TDK VeloCD ( rips at 13x ish )

After inserting an audio CD, MC9 prompts me to RIP it. I hit yes and then wait about six minutes while it "initializes" before the actually ripping starts.

Is this normal?

I have it set to "analyze audio during ripping" and "digital secure" and "max speed"

If it's normal, then so be it but as I have over 200 CD's to RIP it'd be good to know if there's something wrong.

Make Sure The Windows Xp (Go to Windows Settings) Or Other Burners Like Easy CD Creator Or Nero is Not Running in The Notify Area (Lower Right Corner)

It May Help If You Go To MC9, Help, System Info, And Paste That Info Into your Next Message.

I do have other burning software installed ( Nero and Pinnacle Instant CD/DVD ) but nothing is active in the task bar ( bottom right ) I've disable any DLA software.

Here is the copy as suggested...

JohnT The Burner Dude At J River Did Some Tweeking With Burners In A Recent Build. I seen something about it but i think that was for DVD Burning.

Maybe You Should Download The Latest 9.1.260 Build.

Your problem is with the Pinnacle Instant CD/DVD software. With Pinnacle you also get a Virtual drive program, this seems to slow a lot of things down with MC. I had a thread with the same problem, I believe they are looking into it.

I checked out tweakxp.com after reading your thread but couldn't find anything there about disabling InstantDrive.

How did you do it?

Add/remove programs... Unloaded the whole program.

I've found the virtual drive under device manager and disabled it. Rebooted and it stayed disabled.  :)

Fired up MC9 and the start time is down from six minutes to thirty seconds! Woo Hoo!

Let me know if you have any problems with it..
I wouldn't mind reinstalling the software and disabling the VDrive, But just don't have the time/energy to test it..

I've tried to isolate and fix this problem with "virtual" cd programs, but haven't been able to reproduce it here. I am running Pinnacle's instant CD on my computer and it doesn' t cause any slowdown. Do you know which version of the software you are (were) running? My version is the latest, version 7.

I have found a way to disable the Instant drive.. Thanks Tweak XP..

Oddly if you disable it from hardware manager it comes back when you reboot.

If you guys can figure this out that would be cool.
If it's something that will take a lot of Dev time, then it can wait.

Hi John

I am also running Pinnacle Instant CD/DVD 7.0 I didn't have to uninstall the program, just disable the virtual drive. Below ( I hope ) is a screen shot of my Device Manager..

PS - I don't know what VOBID is and the drive isn't SCSI it's IDE but anyway  ?

I inquired at Pinnacle as to whether they had heard of this problem. They had not, but were kind enough to ship me a CD so when I receive it I will do some more testing. I have the trial version but perhaps the "shippable" version is slightly different.
