Title: Conversion and DSP question

I select 'convert if necessary" for transferring files to my IPOD. I have a mix of FLAC and MP3 files - so I selected "convert as necessary" and specified ALAC. I also select DSP .
The FLAC files , I assume get converted to ALAC and the MP3 files are not converted?
Will the DSP be applied to all files transferred ( even the MP3 files which presumably wont be converted?)
