Title: Hauppauge DCR-2650 Cablecard for MC20
Post by: pilotone on May 10, 2015, 02:27:43 pm
Hi,
I would love to use MC20 but I can't get it to work with Hauppauge DCR-2650 Cablecard.
OS is Win8
My tuner devices show up although slowly.  Opencable shows as my profile name.  The channels populate and show in theatreview.
As soon as I select a show, it displays a blank screen, no signal, and my tuner flashes.  If I try to change the channel I get the blank screen and the tuner doesn't even flash.

Currently I'm using Windows Media Center.  It works fine.

Kinda out of options.
Any Ideas

Have you given JRiver Media Center full network access in Firewall?

I thought I had replied to this.  If so, please disregard.

I have turned Windows firewall off.
Went through all settings again.
Rebooted everything.
Same results.

I'm down to two days left in the trial period.  Can it get extended if I can't get it to work?

Thanks Much

Are you using Red October standard or Red October HQ?

Who is your cable provider?  JRiver will only handle 'copy freely' channels, not the encrypted 'copy once' channels and some cable companies (TWC is the worst for this) encrypt 100% of their channels.   I have Comcast and they mostly only encrypt the premium channels.

Will JRiver ever get a license for encrypted channels like WMC? I know WMC is being discontinued by Microsoft and many cable companies are moving toward encrypting more channels.

I'm not sure what license that would be.  We play WM DRM files now, but there is a second level that we don't have a license for.  Last time I checked, it was $10,000 to get one.  Not out of the question, but I'm not sure what that would get us.

I hooked up my dcr-2650 and view the channels fine. I only have basic channels right now because i'm never home to watch tv, but those channels work fine.

JimH, I don't know a lot about the subject but I was under the impression that to view copy-once channels, WMC was required as it is the only software that is "Cable Labs Certified." Now that WMC is dead, how will anyone view DRM protected channels. I was asking about that license.

I took a look on the Cablelabs site this afternoon.  I don't see how software can be certified.

I am using RedOctober HQ.   I'll give standard a shot.
My cable provider is GCI, an Alaskan company.  I don't know if they are copy freely or copy once.  They support tivo.  Wouldn't that seem to indicate copy freely?

I guess I have some research to do.   Will post with any info I get.

Thanks
