I am thinking of buying a dedicated Network Streamer (Audiolab M-NET that matches my M_DAC DAC).
If I run JRiver on my PC and setup Media Network , I can manage the JRiver instance with JRemote and stream from my PC
What controls how the streamer reacts , does JRiver have total control over the output and the streamer merely acts as dumb component preparing the signal for the DAC with minimal signal interference ?
I have tried the concept using my Mede8er and it works fine . The Mede8er suffers from audio gaps due to the processer. Every track change causes a re-render of the screen and a small gap (small but V irritating)
Will a Network Streamer get past this problem ?
Also I am using Wi Fi 300 bps, I assume this is fast enough for audio , I know its not good enough for video (Blurays).
Is the ID acting in this way too ?
Cheers

The Audiolab is DLNA
A lot of DLNA devices don't support gapless playback
Check if it does.

Do you really need streamer? Perhaps you can plug your PC with MC straight into your DAC?

@Vincent
More research needed here , I have tried using a Mede8er which I know has a Gapless issue so I expected poor gapless performance . I was not aware it was common in DLNA devices
@ Andrew
That was he set up but I am trying to rationalise and "pretty up" the hi fi system. I just bought an ONKYO 838 receiver and wanted to match looks etc.
Maybe back to the laptop is an option.

You could consider buying a very nice looking HTPC and run MC on that. It's probably cheaper than buying a dedicated streamer..

Hi
That's what I was trying to do but in South Africa components are a bit thin on the ground. I would need to build it or have it built.
I am trying to simplify life to make it a switch on , navigate & listen type arrangement, not dig around in software ;D
As an alternative I looked for a "product" I could just buy. All HT installers here seem only to consider Video and use either Mede8er or Dune Media Players .
Both of these have "the gapless issue". As they re render the screen on track change they blip for a split second. There are ways around it but the gui is still a dog compared with MC and the Remote app doesn't hold a candle to JRemote so
They seem to forget Audio, but some are using Network Streamers hence the idea.
All in all I want an easy way to keep running JRiver with prebuilt kit

I don't work for JRiver. But you could consider one of these...

This is our hardware solution:

JRiver itself plays gapless even when the tracks are individual files.
If I set up JRiver as a DLNA server and use the ID as the renderer will it also play gapless?
I assume I can connect a USB HDD directly to render Blu Ray rips ?

+1
And does that apply to all models including the Pi versions? In other words, will it act as a gapless streamer to my DAC? Thanks.
-
As far as I know, the Id (including the Pi version) will play gaplessly.
-
Has anybody out there got any experience of this or can test this ??
I am close to buying but no gapless would be a show stopper for me
Cheers

I missed this question. Sorry. You can attach a USB drive and MC can import files from it. Playing Blu-ray rips is something I haven't tried, and it might not work. It certainly wouldn't work on a Pi.
Video does work, but I can't say whether all video works.
