Title: DSD64 to DSD128
Post by: lkypeter on June 04, 2015, 09:40:47 am
Since jriver to convert on the fly pcm to either dsd64 or dsd128, can it convert dsd64 to dsd128? If yes how? Thanks

Not directly, you can convert DSD64 to PCM first, and then to DSD128.

Will pass as the conversion back and both PCM DSD might degrade the sound.

Any plans for direct dsd64 to dsd128 if that is technically feasible?

Thanks.

dsd64 to 128 doesn't make sense from a technical perspective.  You can't add more resolution or accuracy by up-converting.  All you're doing is doubling or interpolating data. You can't create data from nothing.

It's kind of like trying to scale a picture at 300 x 300 pixels up to 600 x 600.  It will NOT increase in resolution *and* you will see artifacts unless the scaling is done with very careful (and sometimes very clever) algorithms.

You can actually squeeze more out of existing from a mathematician point of view with intelligent algorithms like interpolation.

Not sure if it makes sense in audio.
