A phone charging.
Many many TV shows have scenes where someone's sleep is interrupted by an urgent phone call, where the call is about points important to the plot.
That phone is never in a charging cradle, nor is there ever a charging wire plugged in.
It seems likely that almost everyone charges their phone on their nightstand overnight, because it is the obvious time when you are not using it.
And any casual perusal of the web will convince you that people barely get through 16 hours without charging (and that successful marketing of a phone battery that charges in a few minutes would earn you the GDP of a small country).
