Title: New Video Problem came out of nowhere.
Post by: bhampster on June 11, 2015, 01:51:04 pm
Hi,

I use a off the shelf Dell PC (2013 with i5 3.4Ghz CPU and onboard graphics) and was loving life till suddenly nothing will play. Using Either version of Red October I get strange behavior after a few mintutes of playback. I've re-installed JRiver several times. I dis-abled and re-installed MadVR followed by removing it and re-installing JRiver.

I'm lost. I had PERFECT reliability and now I can't play ANYTHING. JRiver was bullet proof for me before and I dont' know where to look to try to solve this. Natually, VLC works so I'm using that in the mean time.

I have a pic but can not attach ... grrrr... The screen goes either grey or has a bunch of green or red blocks appearing at the top.

Recent video driver update?

Recent video driver update?

I failed to mention I use Windows 10 (since January) and I firmly believe the video driver is the problem.

I also believe that if I do a clean install and use a Driver Intel has certified for Win 10 that will clear things up.

I think I've used a couple of my autherizations when I replaced my Hard Drive for a SSD but I think I still have a few more I can use. (I may use another when the release version of Windows 10 comes out also.)

(or maybe the heatsink the the video adapter portion of the main board fell off.)

I installed a clean version of the latest Windows 10 and let the windows update feature get the latest good video driver which it did automatically.

Problem is still there though.....

I'm pretty disturbed. I think I'll install Kodi for now and hopefully later I will come back to JRiver (since I bought it and stuff.)

Do you get any kind of error message?

A log showing the issue may be helpful. This article shows how to collect the logs and attach them to a post:

I installed Kodi (which I used long ago before JRiver) and was surprised to see the same issue.

Therefore,... it's 100% not a JRiver issue, it's something in my Graphics Driver.

(Removed Kodi and will solve the windows problem if I can and go back to my happy JRiver life.)

Seems like I fixed it.

I turned off "use hardware acceleration" and the problem is gone. I don't know when that got turned on,.. must have been following someone's tweak thread or something. I actually don't mind at all not using hardware acceleration in this case.

Even the Red October HQ works fine now and all is well here.

(Maybe later after Windows 10 is released and newer drivers are available I will be able to enable HW accel but I think my PC keeps up without it anyway.)
