Title: Questions from a WMC user
Post by: Stef! on June 17, 2015, 03:12:05 pm
Hi all,

As Windows Media Center is no longer supported, I am looking for an alternative. I have downloaded the trial and was very pleased with the codecs JRiver uses. However, I could not get live-tv activated.

My setup:

WHS 2011 with 4x digital devices DVB-S2 tuners and DVB Link software
4 clients running Windows Media Center (with virtual DVB Link BDA tuners)
2 MacBook Pro
2 iPhone/iPads

I don't mind changing software to get this working with JRiver, but I prefer leaving the hardware as is.

Is there any change to get this working with JRiver, and is there any tutorial available?

Thank you.

Best regards,
Stef.

Are your DVB-S2 tuners bda devices?  If so we can support them on the server.  You will need to do some setting up on the server.

Our Media Center can be put in client mode on your client computers.

Hi Yaobing,

Thanks for your reply, this sounds very promising!

The tuners on the serverside are BDA supported. Is there any tutorial how I can configure this?

Regards,
Stef

There are a few wiki articles that may help.  Some of them are outdated as it is difficult keeping up with the pace of development of this software.  They can be found on FAQ page. (http://wiki.jriver.com/index.php/Category:Frequently_Asked_Questions)  In particular, the following two are relatively up to date:

Television (http://wiki.jriver.com/index.php/Television)

EPG (http://wiki.jriver.com/index.php/EPG)

There have been some major improvements in setting up, which are not reflected in the articles above.  The best thing to do is actually get into action and just follow the steps of Setup Wizard.

To start, go to Tools / Options... and select Television on the left panel.  On the right panel click Setup... under "General" (near the top).

Hi,

I could not find any information about subscription cards. How do I connect my TV-tuners to the subscription card in my Dreambox? Is this supported by JRiver?

Thank you.

By "subscription card" did you mean the device that allows you to watch encrypted channels?

They are not supported in MC.

Exactly. My dream box contains my subscription card to watch encrypted channels. Is there a way to get this working? For example by combining it on the server with dvblink or dvbdream?

Thank you.

That is not possible at this time either.  Sorry.

Hmm, that's really too bad  :(
Hopefully it will be added in future.

Thank you!
