Helping a friend out here.
He has a new Mac mini with OSX ver 10.10.2 and MC20 ver. 20.0.94 installed. He entered and installed a new license which gave a reply, "registration successful" or thereabouts and received a confirmation email. However, when viewing under Help-> Registration information it states, " Media Center 20 20.0.94 (not registered) 2 days left in trial period". Obviously the initial install was 28 days ago.
Tried the usual multiple reboots, re-entered the license and same results. Also, upon having MC20 look for updates, it states he has the latest version yet I see that several newer versions are available. Which might make one think there is an internet connectivity problem, but it functions fine on the web/email. Any help would be much appreciated, we only have 2 days left. :(

Please try updating to the latest version, which is 20.0.116. Do this by either going to Help > Update Channels and setting it to Latest (then check for updates again) or by downloading the .dmg file from the sticky topic on top of this forum section.
-
Thanks will have him do this. I tried downloading the latest version via update channels -> check for updates and it "thinks" it's up to date.
-
Yes, because by default it's on the Stable channel. Switching the channel to Latest should download 20.0.116 but if not, you can download the .dmg file from the 20.0.116 topic.

One more question - If I download the latest .dmg and drag it to "Apps" will it install it over the original MC20 version and keep all the original settings? Or will it install an additional version of MC20 albeit a newer version? I'd hate to have to reconfigure everything if possible.
-
Yes, when you drag it to the Applications folder it'll prompt you on what you want to do - always choose replace. MC's settings are saved elsewhere so it's not affected by updating builds. :)

This is wildly unrelated to your issue, and I do suspect that updating to the latest build will fix the issue, but...
10.10.3 is much improved from 10.10.2, and I'd recommend you do that update. Particularly with networking, they fixed a bunch in .3 (and it looks like, from the betas, that the same will be true for .4 if the mdnsresponder thing pans out).

The guys are recommending downloading the latest MC for a variety of reasons. One of the big ones is, the licensing type changed sort of recently (past few months). When I initially tried to license my copy on Mac, it wouldn't take. When I downloaded the latest, I had to re-run the licensing procedure and then it worked.
That basically amounts to running the .MJR file again. Just adding this for completeness.

You shouldn't need to do anything with licensing when you install an update.

Make sure that the version of the license and program match. MC20 for both.

I'm having the same problem as the original poster: my trial period has run out, but MC doesn't believe I've purchased the program. I haven't tried installing the key (says it's installed) and restarting my Mac Mini. Each time I try to start MC I get a pop up that says my trial period is expired. I have not tried updating to the latest build available in the sticky topic at the top of this forum.
Before I try that, my trial copy was MC20, but my install key says MC21. Is that a problem? If it is, what is the fix? I currently have no access to MC.
-
Yes, you need the latest build. The reason is, MC21 is going to be available soon. So, in the mean time, the very latest builds of MC20 accept MC21 licenses. ...and all new licenses are for MC21. Thus you need a very recent build of MC20, which can accept the MC21 license that you purchased.
So do the update and you should be all set!
Brian.
