Title: Need a JRiver Setup Tutorial for Challenged
Post by: PostBop on July 17, 2015, 04:37:36 am
Could some one PLEASE give me a straight forward video/wiki on the basics to use JRiver?  I have tried JR several times with hopes of buying the latest version. But each time I mess up setting it up BAD! I want to use JR as I now use an NAD DAC and when I can get music to play from JR it is great.

This is probably the wrong forum so please excuse me, I did a search and what I found was miles above my understanding.

I use Window 7 Professional 32 Gig, have music from DIME A DOZEN and a CD Collection I want to play-No Video or photo- Just Flac or WAV files.

Thank You Kindly

I've felt your pain.  Try this one from the Hirez Music Circle at the Audio Circles website.

Video guides to setting up JRiver for DSD and hirez

http://www.audiocircle.com/index.php?topic=121419.0

It may help.

For starters since you're only interested in audio, is to enable Audio Only Mode by going to the View menu and clicking on Audio Only Mode. This disables features like video and images since you won't need them. :)

There is a wiki topic called Getting Started and a link in my signature.

Go slowly and don't change too much to start.

I appreciate everyones links and directions. I was following the excellent video but soon realized the music files I want to add are live jazz  www.dimeadozen.org (http://www.dimeadozen.org) I download FM broadcasts from Europe. This presents a problem with the import step as the files all show as unknown and may conatin 5 torrents.
Example:

Type: File Folder

Location: M:\DIMEJAZZ

Andromeda Mega Express Orchestra - 2015-04-24, jazzahead!, Bremen, Germany, Live Webstream

I am in the process of ripping my non jazz CD collection to also add in case I revert back during a weak momment. My attempt at 61 year old humor.

Is the big string above a folder name?  Does it contain all of the information about the "album" and the artist?  It seems to, but I don't know the music, or that site, and I can't get in to that site without an account, so I'm guessing.

If everything you want for album, artist, and maybe some other fields too is represented there, you can use the Fill Properties From Filename tool to import albums or folders like these.

If you can give us more information about the folders or albums you are trying to import, someone here can probably guide you to the right solution.

Brian.

The Getting Started section is a bit thin. It all depends on the definition 'started' of course.

Interact might be a good solution to provide support, but it is no substitute for a manual, in whatever physical form.

I seriously doubt you guys realise how difficult it has become to find a real answer to a question, and not some well ment opinions of newbies confusing each other in process. There are real nuggets of gold in the forum, but they are harder to find than real gold.

As a challenge : try to find an article on how to setup a multiroom audio solution with JRiver 20. Good luck.  ;)
