I there a way within MC to list quantities of albums or get some library statistics such as number of unique albums or artists?

There are some threads on generating statistics about various things that require some fairly lengthy expressions to be cut and paste into smart lists and/or views.  Do some searches if you are interested in that kind of stuff.  But the basics are really easy!

Just go to a Panes view.  Like the included view in Audio > Panes (on the left navigation area).  Every category at the top shows you how many are in each category.  So for example, right now I have a pane for Genre, one for Artist, and one for Album.  The top row of each of these tells me a total.  Total number of Artists at the top of the Artists Pane.  Total number of Albums at the top of the Albums Pane.  For basic stats, it doesn't get a lot easier than that.  :)

You can add whatever Pane categories you want if they aren't already there.  Just right click and add what you want to see.
