Title: SACD playback
Post by: iamimdoc on August 18, 2015, 06:27:38 pm
I have an older Macbook (pre I3-I7processor) setup as a Windoes PC with WIN 7.

I use an IFI DAC (supposed to play SAC, dss, dff files).  This setup plays many SACD iso files, but not all.  Some files sputter, hiccup, etc.  All FLAC files play without issue.

A friend has an I7 PC laptop with non SACD capable DAC. JRiver enquires (he says) when trying to play an SACD ISO file "Do you want me to convert this to a FLAC file at 96k on the fly?"  (or words to that effect says he).  Things play fine.  No problems

1) Is this a setup option in JRiver (the SACD to FLAC conversion)?
2) Is the older MacBook likely be able to handle this task (if things can be configured this way) or will this be to steep a hill for the older PC to climb?

Thanks

Update.  I am using JRiver 19.  Friend is using version 21.  Not sure if this is pertinent.
