Title: Odd thing about antivirus problems
Post by: CountryBumkin on August 01, 2015, 07:52:46 am
It's odd that a lot of us are running the same anti-virus (Windows Defender or Microsoft Security Essentials) and don't run into problems.
Perhaps there is some combination of hardware, other programs installed, settings, or such that causes trouble when they are all mixed together.

I'm running Security Essentials with "exclusions" (as described in the Wiki http://wiki.jriver.com/index.php/Taming_Windows_Defender) and Malwarebytes Anti-Malware Home (with the same files/folder excluded), and everything is working nicely.

We don't see many problems with Microsoft's antivirus.

It is strange, I never had any problem with Defender, and I am not using exclusions.  All my client machines run Win8.1x64 on a range of devices going from first version i3-NUCs to i7-4770 and some BayTrail tablets.

I've had some machines with Defender where I need to do the exclusion, and some where I don't. Seems to depend mostly on disk access speeds (so SSD vs spinner).

Even on the ones where I don't "need to" it does help performance to do the exclusion.

But we do see some (http://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php?topic=86096.msg689373#msg689373).
