Title: Questions on Upgrading
Post by: JimH on May 09, 2016, 10:40:06 am
Special prices are currently available on MC22 upgrades.

All licenses sold now are MC22 licenses that will work with MC21 now or MC 22 when it is available (July).

Please read Upgrade Help (http://wiki.jriver.com/index.php/Upgrade) first.

If you still have questions, please post them here.

Thanks.

Have already completed the purchase, but was just curious if there's a list of added/modified features for MC 22. Thanks

new (and planned) features are usually announced much later.  you don't have to buy now, it's an early bird special for those who want in no matter what!

Hi

Just asking for a french friend who for some reason got charged the full price fro the upgrade

He had to ask for his registration codes. Received an email and got his codes dating back to v17, btw, not just the last one which was v20. He said he pasted in the code from v20.

Anyway can I send his info to you guys to sort this? ... don't want to post his codes/name here of course

thanks and sorry for the trouble ...

Please forgive me if this has been answered previously.  I did not see it in the Upgrade Help FAQ.
I recently purchased MC 21 for the Mac.  I would like to upgrade this to a Master License and have it cover MC 22.
What is the process?

Thanks for your help.

Just buy a Master License upgrade.

Hi Jim.  Thanks for your quick reply.  Love the product!  I recently switched from Audirvana Plus.

I have a quick pricing question.
On my Mac, I went to the JRiver toolbar and clicked on Help.  I had previously bought a Mac only license for MC21.  I then selected "Upgrade to Master License".  I was charged around $18 and noticed it said Mac lic for MC22.  I tried the Registration Code on my Windows laptop and got the error message that the product was invalid.  I then re-preformed the "Upgrade to Master License" on my Mac and was charged around $22.  This registration code worked on my Windows laptop.  I'm fine with paying an upgrade price to a master license and a second upgrade price to get MC22.  I just want to make sure I didn't over pay, because I did something wrong.

Thanks,

Eric

Dear Support,

I purchased JRiver MC 22. Got the license code via email, and the .mjr file, but later I found that Audiophile Optimizer 1.4 (the latest version of this software) on Windows Server 2012 only works with JRiver MC 20. At the license restore page there is no option to get the license key for the older version, so how can I get the .mjr file for MC version 20, please?

Also, my motherboard has no network driver for Windows Server 2012, so I need an absolute offline solution.

Best regards,
Tamas

Old licenses aren't available.  We don't recommend using software that modifies the OS.  MC is also unsupported on that OS.

The latest version of MC21 will work with that license.  It's on the Download Page.

Done.
If "Improved access to metadata" includes retrieval of metadata in the user language, or even better, in a multitude of languages (to get the original title, the english title and the german title), the $22,98 USD were worth it.

I have purchased MC21 on 7/10/2015 Visa card. When I go to http://jriver.com/purchase_22_as_upgrade.html and paste the copied Registration Code into the box I get a pop up window that states "We could not find an upgrade available for the Registration Code you entered".

I can't seem to find any additional help for this matter so hopefully someone will look into this for me.

Thanks,

You have a Master License for MC21.  That can be used to upgrade to a Master License for MC22.

Didn't see this covered, so...

I bought a master MC21 license. Ended up never using it on Mac or Linux. Don't think I ever will.  I'd like to upgrade to support the product and company, but only to the Windows version. Is there a way to do that or did I screw myself by purchasing something I never used the first time around. Thanks!

No, but you could upgrade an older single OS license if you have one.

Don't have an older license. Just started using it last year... I guess you get an extra $4 of my hard earned money. :)

I bought a few months ago a master license of version 21. Do I have to pay again for the upgrade to version 22? Is there any upgrade protection for a certain period?

Just want to verify I'm interpreting correctly.

If I have SINGLE license for MC 21 - I can buy MC 22 Master Upgrade License for $22.98 and then install MC 22 on multiple platforms if I ever have the need?

Is it possible to say if MC22 (or one of its early updates) will avoid triggering the windows 10 task bar issue? I need to know in order to choose which upgrade path to take.

Thanks,

This is a Windows 10 issue that Microsoft will need to fix.

For the Windows 10 Start Menu problem, there's a workaround that seems to work perfectly.  See the script in this thread:

This is a Windows 10 issue that Microsoft will need to fix.
Thanks, so that'll be a 'no' then. By this point I've given up hoping that MS will fix the issue any time soon (if at all), so that makes the choice much clearer. If staying with MC I'll upgrade to the multi-OS licence and get a small linux machine for it. I don't think theres the option to just swap to linux, but the price difference isn't huge.

For the Windows 10 Start Menu problem, there's a workaround that seems to work perfectly.  See the script in this thread:
http://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php?topic=104591.0
Brian.
Thanks also Brian, that looks promising! TBH I've had more trouble with attempted work-arounds than the actual issue itself, so have lost interest in risking the main PC again until windows 10 is (natively) compatible with MC. But if this script works then it would open the door to keep windows (and the same licence type) on a second machine.

Thanks again
Kev
Title: Upgrading MC Master License 21 to 22

I bought a master license (upgrade) for MC 21 a few months ago. Do I have to pay again to receive a master license of version 22? Is there any upgrade protection for a certain period?

Less important question, is there any real benefit to having a master license if MC will only be used on a PC? Can I also use it on my laptop? Of sorry, that was three questions, first one is most important.  :)

Any licenses purchased since the 1st of May are MC22 licenses (which work with MC21 as well). Upgrading is optional, if you're happy with using MC21 and feel no need to upgrade to MC22, then you don't have to.

If you're just using Windows PCs, then no there's no reason to purchase a Master license and/or upgrade to a Master license. You can install and register MC on the PCs you own, within reason of course. ;) So installing on the laptop as well is fine.

Jim's Upgrade Help (http://wiki.jriver.com/index.php/Upgrade) link should cover all this stuff.

You need to download and install a later version.  21.0.83 is on the Linux board:

That did the trick. Thanks Jim. I'm all set & looking forward for to all the same features in windows to be ported over to linux. For now. The core features are there & am really happy with the linux version. I was waiting for this for a while so I could cut the cord with windows.

Now This is the only paid software I use and worth every penny.

Keep up the great work.

Dear Support,
I purchased JRiver MC 22 upgrade, but JR 21.0.83 can't recognize new code.
I've lost the 7 restores but without results. I've tryed to install the old key (MC21) but I get the same results.
I have the 2 key (MC21 and MC22) and I have "UNREGISERED" software.
OS: Windows 7 and Windows 10 - the same results.
Could you explain me what I need to do now?

You may have a typo in the code.  Use copy and paste.

Mac and Windows are different licenses.

Please read this carefully.

We can reset your restores if you run out.

I know this and and tried both (copy/past and .mjr-file). Unfortunately the problem with registration was earlier but everything was solved after updating of the program. I hope that everything will be solved in the best way

Old licenses aren't available.  We don't recommend using software that modifies the OS.  MC is also unsupported on that OS.

The latest version of MC21 will work with that license.  It's on the Download Page.

Many serious audiophiles use Server 2012 + AO + JRiver and works perfectly. In this situation I purchased 2 different pieces of software, both of which the latest possible version and still I'm unable to use them. Anyway, I installed Windows 10, succesfully installed JRiver 21 downloaded from your page (MediaCenter210076.exe) The program wanted to upgrade itself, I let it do this and then (after successfully activated with the provided .mjr file) still says it's 2x days left from trial period. It is certain that the registration process is not working correctly, how to overcome this annoying issue?

Make sure you're using MC21.0.83 and then do a restore.  Details are here:

I'm aware that some audiophiles do what you're doing, but it is _highly_ not recommended by JRiver.

I purchased an ID and also run MC21 on my desktop and laptop. (plus JRemote on iPad and iPhone).  Does the ID come with upgrades to 22?  If not I think I need to purchase a master license.  If the ID will update itself to 22 I think I just need to purchase a PC license.

Which upgrade is the correct path here?

Jim - I solved my problem with the 21 upgrade by uninstalling both versions of the product and then reinstalling the 21. However, I still don't feel that a forum is the right place for this sort of question. I had just paid money for a product which didn't work (or as Monty Python would have put it - I had just bought a dead parrot). To then force me to log in to a forum and then to guess where to post is not my idea of fun. It would be much more reassuring to have a simple form which would get to you anyway.

To clarify Jim, would the master license upgrade cover an upgrade on the JRiver Id (mine is an older one which is on MC 20).  Is the Id expected to follow the upgrade path as well?

Thanks.

Thanks Jim...Still love my Id device.  I flip back and forth between using the Id 202 (as DLNA server), and Roon/HQ Player (NAA from iMac).  Both work fabulously with the newly introduced Sonore microRendu.  I'm in on MC 22 (Master license upgrade).  Keep up the good work.

So, question... I want to buy the 21 version but if 22 comes out so soon, I'd rather have that but not wait until summer. If I buy it today, my licence will work both for 21 today and 22 when it is released? How do I know that for sure?

Also, MC20 doesn't want to remove itself from my "Open With..." menu. Who can I email at JRiver to help me fix that?
Thanks!

You either need to upgrade the master license or using your MC 20 key should get you the Windows only upgrade

Ok, I'm confused with the emails on upgrading and purchasing the new version.  I already paid for the version that I have.  Isn't upgrades included in this or do I have to pay to upgrade.

Another topic.  The FAQ when I purchased asked about using the same license for multiple users in the same household, is this still the case and what is the procedure to get the new software licensed on my wife's new laptop?

Upgrades are for the new Versions of MC. Updates are just that, updates for the version you have installed and these are free!

you may install and licence your wife's laptop using the same key as you did your computer at no additional cost.

That's the correct price until Sunday.

At this time, the QNAP version needs an MC21 key.  We're waiting for QNAP to release a build we've sent them.  Then an MC22 key will work.

Licenses are good indefinitely.  If you have an MC21 license, it will work with MC21 forever.

You can use your Install Key to license another machine.  It lasts 14 days, then you need to use a Restore.

If you have an older Windows license, you could use it to upgrade to a new Windows license.

Hi Folks,

Two days ago, I received an email from J River saying that I could save $10 on a pre-order of MC 22. So, today I set about doing the deed. I have very recently upgraded my PC to Windows 10 and my previously-installed MC 18 was removed in the upgrade process. So I installed a trial version of MC 21. I obtained my registration code by emailing J River but this was not recognized by MC 21. So, now I don't know how best to proceed. What do I need to do to ensure that I get a licence for MC 21/22 and don't miss out on the $10 saving by ordering MC 22 before tomorrow?

Thanks in advance.

I'm probably way off the mark here, but have you tried reinstalling MC 18? From what I've read, your licence will only work with the version it was licensed for.  :) You should then be able to upgrade to MC 22.
Good luck!

Hi HH,

Thanks for your reply.

No, I have not tried re-installing MC 18. I assumed (perhaps wrongly!) that MC 18 was removed during the Windows 10 upgrade process because it was not compatible with Windows 10. I'll try re-installing MC 18.

If you have MC21 installed, you can follow the instructions in the e-mail (or in the Upgrade Help topic on this board).

NM - fixed it.

I have MC21, and wanted to take advantage of the discount prior to Sunday. Followed the link in email, entered my registration code, but the payment page will not accept my password. Pretty sure I never changed it. I verified the email address by having the registration codes emailed to me, but cannot solve the password issue.

I have a registration code but I can't figure out where I'm supposed to enter it on my MC21. Am I just supposed to keep the code until July and then download MC22?

If you have previously registered MC21, just wait for MC22.

Hi - I bought an upgrade to 22 Master today and used the new mjr file to install the new license on my Mac and my PC. The successful installation was confirmed in both cases, but the registration is for MC 21 Master, not 22. In both cases, the installed version of MC is the latest stable build. Please advise.

Thanks

MC22 will be available in a month or so.  When it is, we will send you an e-mail.

Hi - yesterday I bought an upgrade from MC21 Master to MC22 Master. I installed the mjr file on my PC and Mac versions (both are at current release level), got confirmation that the installation was successful but my Registration Info window still shows MC21 Master. Please advise.

Thanks

I upgraded from MC21 (Windows) to Master MC22 but this upgrade does not work. I did it in accordance with the instruction found on JRiver Web pages: "you can upgrade for $22.98 (normally $30.98) from any Windows, Mac, or Linux version of Media Center all the way back to MC10". Does not "any" mean MC21 Windows? If it is not, the quote is apparently misleading. Please, correct. What shall I do to get at least the working MC22 Windows (when it is available) for the money that I already paid?

You got a version 22 master license.  Thanks!

You should be able to enter the code in the latest versions of MC21 on any platform.

I did a fresh download and install as suggested, then installed the MC22 mjr. The Registration Info still shows 21.0.83, Master license.

I have seen similar posts but with no clear replies.  So, I apologize if this is redundant.

I have MC21 installed (master license) on Win7 and purchased an MC22 master license.  I downloaded the license and ran the .mjr file.  When I did so, a box indicated that the license was properly installed.  However, when I look in "Registration Info" in "Help", it indicates JRiver Media Center 21 21.0.83 rather than JRiver Media Center 22 22.0.    Did the MC22 license actually install?  If so, why does it still indicate MC21.   If the MC22 license didn't really install, what else do I need to do?  Thanks in advance for your reply.

The comment "JRiver Media Center 21 21.0.83" in the Registration Information window is referring to the version of Media Center you're running. Just below that it should say something like "(registered Master license)" If you really want to make sure that the version 22 license installed, for Windows, you will need to check the registry.

I am disappointed to hear about a new version of MC when I just upgraded to MC21. I can only afford to upgrade from time to time, and I waited for MC 21 and now it is out of date already?

MC22 won't be available for at least another month.  It will be similar to MC21 in the beginning.

Your license will work with MC21 indefinitely.

Hi Jim, I am running MC19, bought the MC21/22 upgrade. The good news is that it was inexpensive and that the licence works...  :D

But I guess I did something stupid ?: I downloaded and installed MC21 (licence OK), expecting it to either overwrite MC19 or auto-import it's library and settings... :'( I get the option to import stuff, but I feel that shouldn't be necessary. Was I expecting too much here, or did something go wrong? ?

You can backup your library in MC19 and restore it in MC21.  It's under File > Library.

I think the upgrade needs to be a little more informative. I don't think I should have to be asking any questions and i am willing to bet the questions I have are already answered. but they are not very easy to find.

Question 1 - How Do I Upgrade?
There is even a post on this topic. But it only deals with prices, pricing, and costs. So I figured I would look for "How Do I Install The Upgrade". So much stuff to sift thru. Can't be that hard, can it? Why isn't there a sticky called "Installing The Upgrade" to go right along with "How DO I Upgrade"? So what IS the procedure to install the upgrade, is there a simple outline i can follow without reading a large bunch of forum posts?

Question 2 -
Even though I only have 2 computers, i noticed after i bought the upgrade from MC20 to MC21, the downloads for the new license still are counting down. But new people who buy the program fresh would get the full count for downloads. Is that intentional? Is it a handicap to upgrade rather than being a new client?

Thanks,
Peter

Early versions of MC22 will be available in July.... Over the next year, there should be about 100 new builds....

Does this mean new builds for MC21 end in July?

Thanks for this.  JR18 won't uninstall from Windows 10 control center, nor if I click on the JR18 uninstall app directly in it's folder.  Is there an incompatibility with Windows 10?  I have used 19 and 20 and they're gone (I assume they were deleted when I upgraded) except for folders of backups.  Why can't I get rid of 101MB of JR18?  Appreciate any insight!

Download and install the last version of MC18.  You can find it in "Old Versions" on our wiki or you can go here:
http://wiki.jriver.com/index.php/Restoring_a_License

Run it once and then uninstall it.

I just had my PC upgraded to Windows 10 from 7, and it won't upgrade to JRiver Version 21.  What do I do?  Also I've never used a forum like this before, it's very confusing about what to do and where things are.

Dear JRiver,

I've installed version 21 (master edition) and purchased version 23 (also master edition), but when I want to install the 23 version there is a message on my screen "Your license file is for a different product"
Can you help me? I don't know where I go wrong.

Thanks

I have recently purchased the Media Center 23 Upgrade for Mac and have found when trying to install a window opens saying my "current license is for a different product".
I currently have the Media Center 22.0.88 version.
Is there anyway to get a refund on this recent purchase I don't require ?

You need a newer version to install the MC23 license, but don't worry about it now.  You will receive an email with instructions when it is released in a couple of months.
