Title: JRemote: Save as Playlist not possible
Post by: chris13 on September 01, 2017, 04:08:18 pm
Hi Forum,

i'm using JRemote on my iPad Air 2 with IOS 10.3.3 and i'm not able to save as Playlist. The error message says:
JRemote was unable to save this playlist.
Am i doing something wrong?

It would also be helpful to know if this is a known bug.

To be more clear about the problem:
The problem appears if i want to save the current play queue as playlist. Adding single songs to a playlist works.

Btw. the problem also appears with the iphone 6.

My server is a raspberry pi 3 with MC22.

Update:
If i switch the zone from "This Device" to "Player" it works -- The problem only exists with zone "This Device"

I think playlists can only exist and be created on the server. JRemote is after all a remote control for jriver mc, with the ability to stream to the ipad/android device itself.

Thank you for your answer.

In my opinion the app offers this functionality or at least suggests the possibility to save the playing queue (Play now) as playlist. It is also possible to create a new playlist, but only by selecting a single track (at least in my case). ?

Nevertheless a great product.

I am having the same problem-it appears it might be a bug because it used to save playlists as well as rating of songs. Everything appears to be set up correctly with authorization, password etc. Is anyone else having this problem?

 Thanks
Jim

Sorry to revive this, but I have the same problem.  I can not save playlists created while "This Device" is selected as the Zone.  If I switch to a different Zone I can create and save playlists, but it doesn't work if I use my device (iPhone/iPad).  Any ideas?

Try setting authentication on the server.

Try setting authentication on the server.

It's set with Username and Password.  Everything works fine unless/until I change the zone to "This Device".  That's when I get the "JRemote was unable to save this playlist" error.

Not to comment on whether or not they plan on looking into this or fixing it (because I don't know, and wouldn't presume to), it's worth pointing out that JRiver's developers are all on vacation until after the new year.

I can tell you why it's not working.
The device zone is not a real zone.
It's files queued for playback are on the device not in MC.
So when the remote tells MC to save the playlist, that command doesn't work because there is no zone in MC with a playlist.

Looking at some possibilities of making this work but it looks like it will require changes to MC and all of the remotes.

Gotcha, thanks for the reply. Too bad it seems to be a core issue.
