Title: Finding the Id on Your Network
Post by: JimH on January 04, 2018, 06:04:12 pm
Normally, you can use Explorer > Network to browse to the Id and open InternalStorage > Media, but a recent change to Windows 10 browsing has caused problems finding machines with Samba running.

User Smilin_Jim found a solution to a problem I had seen.  The Id wasn't showing up as a computer in Explorer > Network.

It looks like a Win10 update changed the Samba requirements.  Smilin_Jim post instructions for making it work:

Thank you, Smilin_Jim.

Here's an edited version of his instructions:

1.  Control Panel>Programs and Features

2.  "Turn Windows Features On and Off" on the left pane.

3.  In the pop-up box scroll down to and expand the "SMB1.0/CIFS File Sharing Support" topic.

4.  "SMB 1.0/CIFS Client" needs to be checked.

5.  Reboot

Split Windows 10 Browser Problems and Samba (https://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php/topic,114059.0.html)

We're still thinking about how to handle the Win10 change.  The Id may not show up as a Computer in Explorer > Network.  You can still connect to it by entering the IP address in Explorer.  For example:

\\192.168.0.15

You should see
InternalStorage
and
ExternalStorage

The media files can be transferred to the Media directory.

Personally, I find this utility really useful for locating devices on my network:

Extra handy because it gives clear advice of the MAC address.
